Has anyone every stayed at the Rodeway Inn International?

Or do you know of another cheap, under $100 a night, (we're splurding on disney's Polynesian for the first part of our trip while we do WDW), but are heading out of the resort while we see other orlando and surrounding area attractions.
We'd like to be close to Universal Studios, preferrably with a free shuttle that takes us to Universal.
Anyone have any advice? Thanks :)

I stayed a night at the Rodeway Inn on International Drive. The room had beds, a bathroom, a refridgerator, and a microwave. I believe I obtained a rate of $32 a night from Hotwire. It was a nice, generic room.

Warning! Warning!

The area of Internatonal Drive that the Rodeway Inn resides can have very heavy traffic, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. It might take you 30 minutes to travel from Universal Blvd. to the Rodeway Inn.

Wow, yikes about the traffic! Thank you so much for the warning!

Do you have a recommendation for a better hotel (still cheap) near universal?

Traffic is only bad on International Drive during weekend nights. The rest of the time seems to be fine.

If you want a place close to Universal, look at the properties along Universal Blvd. or Kirkman Road. Clarion Universal is on Universal Blvd. and about a mile from Universal. Kirkman Road has a Howard Johnson's, a decent Days Inn, and a Holiday Inn all within 1-2 miles of Universal.

You might want to check out travelocity or expedia. They have been having really good deals lately. I got the Best Western Lake Buena Vista for 7 nights, R/T air for four people and a rental car from Hertz for only $999. (with tax it came to 1200) So I can imagine just for hotel alone they will have good deals.
Hawthorne Suites Lake Buena VIsta has good ratings and they are suites with breakfast included. I believe there is a Hawthorne Suites Universal that is supposed to be nice too. There is also the Hawthorne SUites Seaworld.....Just throwing some ideas out to you!!;)

Awesome! Thank you :) I'll take another look at expedia and travelocity - I haven't checked recently.

Fairfield Inn on Canada Drive, off International Drive is great. Warm pool, free breakfast and beautiful beds. Gets a very high rating on tripadvisor.com

As it is on an adjacent road to International Drive you can miss the traffic and travel to Universal without having to go on the very busy I Drive at weekends.

I Drive is great for restaurants but not for getting to and from.
