I noticed a photo of the Movie Theater sign at City Walk which had Rocky Horror playing July 26/27 - is this a regular thing? We'll be there in August, and I'd love to take my daughter to a midnight showing of the movie if it's playing. I'm hoping this wasn't a "one time" thing.

The theater shows the RHPS every now then...it's usually shown around Halloween but they do show it throughout the year.

Thanks! Hopefully it will be playing the week we're there - would be a nice treat.

It is a regular thing. The group is called the Rich Weirdos. I believe they do Rocky like the first and third weekends or something like that. I saw them my first trip to Universal back in '08 and enjoyed it a lot (it was my first time going to it, even though we did the original musical version of it at my acting college).

Didn't you say your daughter is 12? No offense, but I think she might be a little young to take to RHPS. It can get very raunchy, especially the audience shout backs, and even more especially the cast. Unless you're ok with her hearing a lot of foul language and such.

Thanks SO MUCH. It's playing the weekend we're there. We won't be on site that weekend, but we can drive over from our Sea World hotel. I see they allow kids, too, my daughter will be over the moon about this. I just got even more excited about our trip. I was 13 the first time I saw Rocky Horror at the theater at midnight - my daughter is 12, so she's got a head start on me, lol!

My kids have been watching the movie and listening to the soundtrack since they were in diapers, and it's one of her favorite movies. I know the audience participation is much more lewd than the actual movie, and I'll mention that to her and make sure she's okay with it. I have NO problem with it at all, I was only a year older than her when I started playing Columbia at the midnight screenings myself, lol. I think she would really appreciate the experience since we don't have midnight showings here any more, and since the live shows are always 18 and up affairs.

Well now I feel dumb. But you never really know with people on this site whether they really comprehend what they're getting into. Kinda like with the old Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom. They had signs literally everywhere saying the ride was scary, and yet people still complained that it was scary. I just wanted to put something as a just in case, haha.

Oh, if you go to my 2008 TR (link in my signature), I'm pretty sure I posted some of the pictures I got with the cast.

Please don't feel dumb...I'm probably in the minority (to say the least) when it comes to parenting. Kind of goes with the territory of being an atheist pansexual homeschooling mom, LMAO! I will DEFINITELY share with her that the audience participation gets pretty raunchy, and if she's okay with that, I am too. I know there are plenty of people who have seen the movie but have never experienced it "live" and have no idea what they're walking into...lol...so I'm sure your post will be helpful.

Your mention of Alien Encounter made me laugh. Our one and only Disney trip was when our kids were 6 and 7. The ride had already been changed to the Stitch ride, and for whatever reason, that ended up being the first thing we rode our first day at Disney. My 7 year old son was TERRIFIED and cried hysterically the entire time. We walked out through the gift shop when it was over and I swear, I thought he was going to vomit all over the gift shop carpet he was crying so hard. We had to find a park bench, sit and calm him down, and PROMISE him the other rides weren't scary. I was trying not to crack up as I watched him hyperventilate over STITCH.

He's 14 now, and when I told him I was taking his sister to Orlando he said "Have fun, I'll stay home." Stitch ruined him for life, he'll never go to another theme park again. ;-)

I was 12 when I first saw the midnight showing (at CityWalk!), and it was SO much fun. It was already my favorite movie before then and it was so exciting to experience the showing. I've seen it quite a few times since there and I love it more and more. I will say that I was a little shocked at a lot of the language (even though some of it I didn't quite get yet). So it's a good idea to prepare her that the movie is much tamer than the audience!

You might want to get to the theater early, as the tickets tend to sell out.

I'm so glad there are parents out there as open-minded as mine were! :goodvibes Have fun!

Fun aside note: You guys mentioned the old Alien ride at Disney.. did you know Tim Curry provided a voice for that? I though that was a funny coincidence :D

Thanks for your post. My husband was worried about my taking her and other adults being irritated that a child was in their midst. I'm sure there won't be many, but she has every much a right to be there as they do.

I did not know that about the Alien ride - we never got to experience it, as it had already been Stitch-i-fied by the time we made it to Disney. Cool to know, though. I adore Tim Curry.

The Rocky Horror Picture show Tribute show is coming back to Halloween Horror Night this year.

I'm gonna make a point to see it at HHN. I missed it the last year it was there. I'm still kicking myself I didn't ride Jaws my last HHN, as it was right before it closed.

I just checked the link to RichWeirdos, and they had this caveat:
Due to Universal CityWalk's new Security Policy, anyone under the age of 21 entering CityWalk after 10PM will have to be escorted by Universal Security to the Theatre.
In order to make it on time for the movie, please arrive early enough to be escorted before Midnight.
It doesn't sound like it matters if she's escorted by her parent.

This thread has me reminiscing of high school when we used to go to the midnight movie to see rocky horror! I'm doing the time warp in my head and throwing toast!

Thanks for the memories! Enjoy the show with your daughter!

Thanks! I'm so thankful I get to enjoy these types of fun things with my own kids, as my parents were never into any of the same things I was when I was growing up.

Awwww....I just looked at Rich Weirdos calendar and they are not doing RHPS at all while we are there. What a bummer!

It's one of my favorite movies and even though I watch it every Halloween, I have yet to catch a midnight showing.
