I was just reading an email that I got this evening that says that Rock-n-Roller Coaster will be closed for refurbishment 1/7/06 - 2/10/07. I am assuming that it is a typo and it is supposed to be 1/7/07? I can't seem to find this info anywhere else. Please tell me this isn't true!!!!!!!!!! We are going 1/20/07 - 1/27-07 and my DS is on the floor right now crying. :guilty: That is THE ride he is looking forward to going on. I may be tempted to change dates if this is true. Please help. Any info. is needed. Thanks.

There is nothing listed on WDW website. Splash Mt. and Winnie the Pooh are closed during January. So I would be very upset if RnR closed too.

I called Disney reguarding this rumor, and the 2 different CM I spoke with on 2 different days bother were very stern in saying absolutley not. They went on to tell me they get the closing listings 6 months in advance in order to notify guests when booking that this will be closed, and being this is a major attraction they would have had this information already. I know info can vary with the CM but both of them had the same exact thing to say, and also went on to tell me that they get the closing notices before the people who work at the ride or in the park even know this. You can call and speak with someone at disney if you want to ask anytthing about it, but they said in NO uncertain terms this was NOT going to be closed. Winnie the pooh, typhoon lagoon, body wars will be closed, and splash mt will be closed for a bit of Jan.

I saw this as well:

Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom) will be closed for refurbishment 1/2/07-1/27/07.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (Disney-MGM Studios) will be closed for refurbishment 1/7/06-2/10/07.

I assumed the '06 was a typo too, but those going to WDW 1-7-07 to 1-27-07 will face both of these major rides being closed? I would be very disappointed!

I honestly wouldnt write this off as it's closing based on rumors. Like I said I called 2 different days and got the very stern answer that it will not be closing, but they did tell me the others would be closed. I just wouldnt automatically assume this attraction is going to be closed if it has not been listed in stone yet. If the disney CM manning the phones say they get this information 6 months prior, and yes a friend of mine went to DL during the pirates closing and was notified before the trip it would be closed then I would expect that much from WDW as they have said they get the info that far in advance so they can notify the guests. This is JMO, but I wouldnt get worried until it was locked down as happening.

Splash was closed 2006/Jan. also. THey do close major attractions at the same time. Jan. seems to be a favorite time to close big rides. This past Jan., Splash, Buzz, Test Track, were all closed at the same time.

I saw this listed in the Mousesavers newsletter. So you can imagine how shocked I was and once I told my son that it may be closed he literally fell to the ground crying. Poor kid. I am glad to hear that it may only be a rumor. That you all for your insight. That is why I love the DIS!!!! Enjoy your day!

As a TA, I always warn people who are planning January WDW vacations that some of the major attractions may be closed. It's common knowledge that this is when Disney takes care of this stuff. It always cracks me up when people complain about the condition of an attraction. That Disney needs to fix this or that, and then when they do close some things people still complain. You can't just please some people. :confused3

If it wouldn't cost you anything to change your dates, I would!! My ds9 loves that ride since, for now, it's the only upside-down roller coaster he can go on, only 1/2" to grow til Dueling Dragons and Incrdible Hulk :woohoo: Especially if you don't plan on returning very soon.
We went in May and finally convinced my parents to come since they hadn't been there since I was a child. My dad is a big fan of the POTC movie and I couldn't wait for him to see the ride that inspired the movie and share it w/ my kids. Unfortunately, the POTC ride was closed and my parents were so exhausted I don't think they'll return for a while. I really wish I could have changed the dates but we were really going just to use up a credit from SWA that was about to expire. Almost-free airfare is nice, any excuse to book a WDW trip! :goodvibes

I wouldnt change my days based on a rumor. I mean what if you change your whole vacation cause you saw something listed not on an official site someone heard that this or that is closing you go to all the trouble to change your days up then only to find out they were not planning on closing it. I would be kind of P/o. If you are concerned enough to change your trip I HIGHLY suggest calling disney and talking with them about if they are going to close it. I called 2 times and asked as I stated before. I am not trying to be rude or anything of the sort I just don't understand why anyone is taking this as stone when Disney is saying no (and they have the other refurbs listed) and the other sites have said this is hear say. Again I don't mean to be rude just boggled me how people are taking it as set in stone closed.

According to allearsnet.com, only Splash Mountain and Pooh will be closed in January '07. They're pretty reliable! I'll be arriving at the world 1/5 and am looking forward to rewarding myself with a "limo" ride after running the half marathon so I'm convincing myself that this is just a vicious rumor!

Tinker exactly cause the CM said very straight up that there would be a lot of people upset if this was sprang on them with no notification. They also said they are being swamped with calls lately with people booking so this is info they would have NEEDED to know right away. Being they get it 6 months prior.

I also called Disney today and they said there was not a refurb scheduled for RnR. Maybe the info on Mousesavers is last yr. Was it closed in Jan. last yr.?

Nope. Was not closed last Jan. At least while we were there. Splash closed while we were there last year, but we were able to catch it during EMH the night before shut down.
I too have contacted a CM on another board, and was informed that he found nothing in Disney's computer system confirming a rehab of RnRc set for Jan 07. I really hope all of this talk turns out to be just a rumor. :thumbsup2

It seems a few are contacting disney to ask about this rumor, and we are all getting the same response from different CM when usually you may get 2 or more different answers per CM you speak to, but not in this case. I know the ones I spoke to were a bit shocked by this since they know before the park or ride workers find out.

I believe the rumor started on screamscape. I saw it there and emailed to question where he got his information. I was told that someone who worked at Disney Studios told him that. After I questioned it, he checked again and was given the same information, but now they are unsure of the exact dates. The guy at screamscape said it sounded like a lengthy rehab was coming for sure, but that the dates were still up in the air....but he thinks it will be before it gets busy in the spring. Which would make sense.

I guess all of us going during that time will just need to keep checking and keep out fingers crossed. :-)

Whiterose I honestly don't think they know. It sounds like once you asked the answer got iffy. It honeslty sounds like a rumor if they are supposed to do a lengthy and big refurb on it that's something they would know already at disney. They notified my friend who went to DL earlier in the year that POC would be closed for a rehab when she called for her arrangements, so I would imagine if they are notifiying people for DL on something like that WDW would for sure be doing it also since this is one of their major rides. I am gonna go with disney on this one if others have called and are getting the same information then the CM sound like this is one thing they get for sure info on. :bride: :groom:
