Just finished listening to the email show from this week and had to say hello to Dave- mouseskywalker! We were there too, but on Saturday at 4pm. Us Rochesterian DISers really should have organized a bit better and had our own dis meet there.

Coincidentally I did end up sitting right next to Alicia and Paul- AKA cocowum and launchpad. I had brought my two sisters with us, and she overheard me trying to explain to them how Kristen (fellow diser) and I had made the leap and booked the podcast cruise- as I was trying to describe what the podcast was and why we were going- ... as my sisters gave me those blank stares of confusion...
She piped in- to say hello!
I do have to add my 2c about the deals they offered, I would have to disagree about the deals being any better than they have been, I was not so impressed. When we first bought in in 2003, we were offered the $8 per point deal that we were able to apply towards our deposit. In August of 2007we added on 100pts at AKV, the deal, I thought, was amazing. Whatever you purchased, or added on you recieved double points the first year. Kristen bought in because of that, at the lowest point level- 175, so she ended up with 350 pts this year to use. We pooled them and got a grand villa at AKV for 9 night this August! The only deal which seemed good, but you needed to purchase or add on I think 360pts was Adventures by Disney for two- But an add on I could not afford-

There is another DVC family in town that we routinely get together with to talk Disney over dinner, sometimes swapping homes, sometimes meet at Bill Grey's, would love to have you and any other Disers in town meet us! PM me if anyone is interested. We have a small (very Small) yahoo group that we chat on as well.

Just curious how you heard about the travelling DVC show...was it by invite only?

I don't think we're ready to buy into DVC right now but I'd be interested in attending something like that to know what to expect (REALLY - it's to plant the seed in DH's brain that we should join DVC :lmao: ).

cheers,
:flower3:

I received an email invite, I believe they went out to DVC members. I know there were non DVC members there, not sure how else it was publisized. Alicia was there, she is not DVC yet- she should know, or maybe Dave?
On the invite you were able to sign up 6 people. But I was also able to sign up my sister under her own name and add the rest of the kids, so anyone could attend. You might be able to call DVC and see if they have some sort of schedule planned. It was fun- especially to see The big cheese in my own hometown- with Minnie of course. Chip and dale were there as well!

Yes, we got a postcard invitation in the mail. They invited a number of different "affinity" groups. We're not DVC members, but we got an invite because we're AAA members. After I got my postcard invitation, I also received an e-mail invitation too. I asked what their tour schedule was, and they said that Rochester was the first one. They were going to go back to Florida, assess how the show went, and decide what to do then. Keep your eyes open, it was a really fun day, and low, low pressure for the sales pitch. I didn't end up buying in either, but I was very tempted. I decided the money would be better spent in my DD's college funds.

Sandy- we should have been more organized and had a little DIS Meet. We could have called the Podcast team like the Indy DIS Meet people did. Wow, you were sitting next to Alicia and Paul too! What a small world.

Let me know if you would like to meet sometime- would be fun! Yes, it was a riot to end up seated right next to Alicia and Paul!

Thx a mint for the replies - I'll keep an eye out for the future. :goodvibes

It was great meeting you Sandy. They invited all kinds of different people to that party didn't they? Disney's marketing folks really know what they're doing! We already own DVC at Animal Kingdom Villas and received our invitation through them. A lot of others in attendance were not owners but were considering buying in. How Disney knows who is thinking of buying DVC is a mystery to me!! :lmao: :lmao:

Here's a couple of pics from the Rochester party.

We are DVC members. :goodvibes

I was actually picked from the audience to help get the crowd excited! Me and my big mouth! I think Sandy's husband was ready to kill me for yelling in his ear. Tell him I'm sorry Sandy! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I did get a bunch of free pins for participating. It was alot of fun. :goodvibes

I didn't think the add on incentives were that great. I'm hoping they are better on the cruise. :thumbsup2

Dave, Adam checked us into the event and we recognized him from Welcome Home Wednesdays. He was the host there. What a nice guy! :goodvibes Great job reporting Dave!

As far as who was invited, it really was a mixed group. They had several threads over on the DVC boards discussing it. :goodvibes

We didn't take the annual pass to the Strong museum because DD14 is a little old for it and Rochester is 4 hours away! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

yep, we drove 4 hours to check this out!

Hey Alicia- You did not bother Jim at all, it was quite fun. I agree the incentives did not impress me. When you said you thought you would go resale I assumed you were not yet a member-
I, too have added on- two times! We now own at BCV, SSR, and AKV. One two many I have decided - not points, but resorts. Makes ressies a little complicated. SSR is not my favorite either.
I have some great pictures as well. I will need to upload them when I have a minute, they are still in my camera!
