So, this has been the entertainment of the last 2 weeks around here. Silly robins decided our deck step would be a great place for a nest. We need more trees, apparently.

So, first we see this:

And then this:

A couple of days later, she laid an egg:

Followed by 3 more-1 a day:

Three of them made it to hatching-first one last Wednesday AM:

They are getting a little fuzzier-here is this morning's pic:

I think I've gotten more entertainment out of it than the kids have, but we've learned a little along the way, too:)

We used to have trees by the front door where robins would build a next each year. I loved following them like you are. Then one morning the nest was on the ground. A neighborhood cat had gotten them. I was heartbroken like they were my own babies.

I like your pictures and hope there are no animals that might get them.

How cute. :lovestruc

Cute is not usually what I think when I see them at this point-they are pretty slimy yet, but it really has been fun to watch. My uncle told me that robins usually return to the same place to nest year to year. I'm hoping that they will go under the deck next year! We roped off the deck steps to keep the neighbor kids off the steps. There was a big storm Thursday night, and I kept trying to figure out a way to protect them somehow. They all made it through just fine. My husband informed me that birds have survived storms for many years without my help. Thanks, honey!

We always get them in the nook of an open casement window. And then we can't close it! Boy those little things are noisy in the morning! So cute though!

Last summer we had a pair of mockingbirds set up a nest in one of the bushes around our back patio. We thought it was kind of neat and quickly there were four little eggs in the nest. The neatness factor quickly dissipated after the birds started going after everyone (especially the dog) who happened to wander out onto the patio. The poor dog couldn't even do her business without getting attacked.

This year I have removed 3 nests from various bushes around the house to make sure we didn't have to endure a repeat of last year. I don't feel great about it, but my family spends all summer on the back patio and the front porch and we aren't going to get attacked every time we try to enjoy them.

I had a decorative hat on my full storm door which was a full view window. A robin made a nest on the underside. I was able to watch them all the time from inside my house it was a lot of fun watching them grow..

Yes they do. We have a Robin's nest in the same spot under our deck every year. Of course its right under my grill so every time I go out to cook the mom flies out and sits on the pool deck glaring at me
I am surprised that they built the nest right there out in the open like that. I hope they stay safe.

Aw, that is sweet but I sure hope no animals get to the nest. :(

We keep hoping they will be OK. It is right next to our covered deck, but we do have a stray cat that wanders around. We did this to the bottom of the steps, but I'm not sure it will keep a cat out.:upsidedow

Add tinfoil. I had heard it keeps cats away. We had some Mourning Doves nest in our patio once and it worked great for keep stray kitties away from the nest.

I was just cming to post the same thing! I got pegged by a robin last tight. Apparently There is a nest next to the kids swing set and I scared her. thankfully I had a hood on so it didn't hurt but I am afraid for the kids. The nest is in a vine on the fend which is only 2 feet from the swing sets!
