Amazing, the 7th of Feb in a western Chicago suburb and I heard Robins in a evergreen tree chirping. I had to stop and enjoy the sound. I hope they make it thru the winter.

Chicago 'burbs here too and, while I haven't heard robins yet, I do think we're going to have an early spring despite the snow trying to tell us otherwise. My dogs are blowing out their winter coats (past three weeks or so) and the squirrels are :lovestruc

I haven't heard them yet but usually I do by Valentine's Day! I've been expecting them any time now :D What a wonderful sound :)

I thought I was nuts when I heard them. My house is kinda weird as it isn't easy to see into the trees due to the overhangs.

Early Saturday a.m. I could hear birds chirping like mad. Later that morning we spotted a robin at the back of the yard.

It's 10 degrees right now & feels like 3. Tonight will be even colder. I hope my feathered friends are prepared.

I haven't seen any this far north yet, but I sure did a double take when I saw them everywhere, shivering in the snow, in Champaign this last weekend. :)

How do you know what Robins sound like, do they have a unique chirp? I hear birds some days but I have no idea how to tell what they are because we have so many different kinds around.

I'm looking forward to the return of the hummingbirds :lovestruc My first one usually shows up the first week of May.

Once you hear it, you'll recognize it right away. :) My cats went nuts when I started playing the recording. :lmao:

Thanks! Right now my dog is looking at the computer with her tilted and a very confused look on her face.

The other day it was around 40 degrees and I heard alot of birds but can't remember if I hear that, but I'll be able to keep my ear out now.

If you play the recording long enough, you'll hear the distinctive "chirp chirp" that robins make. It's deeper and more insistent than a typical tweet tweet heard from most birds. :)

I noticed that about our squirrels, too!! They have been quite busy running around!!! ;)

Over an hour west of Chicago here, and I thought my husband was crazy last week when he told me he saw a Robin in the neighbour's tree! I ran out and filled up the birdfeeder though, figuring since we have drifts upwards of 4', the birds might be hungry. Sure enough, the birdfeeder has been quite popular, and now that the squirrels know about it, they are hanging around, too.

I suppose I best apologize to my DH now that I realize he wasn't crazy!

Really miss the hummingbirds too. Still have and should say had Cardinals and Bluejays on my deck all winter long. Also some darling little birds not sure what they are called. Plus hundreds of small black birds. Too small I would guess to be crows. Big difference in wild life compared to northern IL. Really love it here.
