Robert Zemeckis coming to Disney/Pixar

Zemeckis' new-found motion capture passion isn't just appealing creatively: His latest film, "Monster House," is reported to have cost only $75 million, or less than half of what a typical Pixar film budget looks like. Most appetizing to Disney is the idea that a CG-style film could be made at such a reduced price, and still do well without needing to fill 4,000 theaters to capacity nationwide. In short, Pixar movies without the Pixar price or wait.

First I was excited: Zemeckis at Disney could mean good things for my favorite Disney character (he directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit) - but it looks like they are only looking to make "cheaper" CGI films using Motion Capture, which doesn't look anywhere near as appealing (to me at least) as regular animation (hand drawn or hand CGI'd).

Hopefully this will make Zemeckis' movies better (I was underwhelmed by what I saw of Polar Express & Monster House) and help Disney/Pixar advance their CGI operation... if Walt had made Pirates of the Caribbean, you know the effects would have been made by Disney animators, not farmed out to Lucasfilm

Anyway, anyone have any opinions?

Don't let yourself put a negative spin on this. How much his films cost to make is equally as important to the consumer as the man's incredibly impressive resume, which does not include films only made on the cheap. His motion capture can greatly improve along with Pixar

YAY!!! I love him!!! Back to the Future is my all time favorite movie.... give the man some credit!!! I don't care how much it takes him to make movies.... 5 million........255 million..... ZEMECKIS RULES!!!!
