Anyone else concerned about the closing of Roaring Forks at WL? We are considering changing our resort for our March trip because of this issue. Luckily, my partner Amy is in WDW this week and is going to head to WL to check out how they are handling the closure of RF. So, I should have an update for everyone by the end of the week. I know they are planning on having a grab-n-go area set up to accommodate guests during the closure, but I want her to find out where will this be set up and what exactly does grab-n-go consist of? Are there going to be refillable mugs available for our stay? If not, a family of 4 can go through a lot of coffee and soda during a full weeks stay! That will mean we will be spending more money on beverages than normal! :headache:
Enough of my rant! When I have any info, I will be sure to post it.

Hi,
We're going on Jan 18. After speaking to WL manager, I know there is NO refillable mug station. Yes, big disappointment! We were considering changing resorts too, but it was within the 45 day window and then costs money to change, so we'll stick it out. Hopefully it'll work out! :flower:

We are also going on Jan 18. See you there! We had already decided not to do the refillable mug thing, but it still will be inconvenient to have RF closed. Oh well, we're at WDW for 12 days...somehow we'll muddle through!! :teeth:

Does anyone know why they've closed it or is it just closing for renovations? We stayed there two summers ago and LOVED IT!!! The girls and I would get up early and they would swim and I would sit on the steps and drink FREE coffee out of my mug.... is there not going to be an alternative offered for quick snacks and meals?

bad, bad move IMHO. that is the reason we stay there more than not. it was so so convenient for quick in and out.

BAD MOVE ON THEIR PART

I read on another thread that while RF is having renovations done, the facility will be open during that time. They will have cold packaged things (cereal, sandwiches), fruit, wrapped snacks, bagged chips. They said they will also offer 1 hot entree for each meal. However I have read they will not sell mugs therefore there will be no refillable mug beverages availalble. They will have canned sodas and bottled water for purchase. grrrr.

We leave in less than a month. Hopefully we will get a first hand report from someone returning that can tell us exactly what is going on.

Looks like I am packing my own coffee and hot chocolate and water.

If saving money is an important factor, you will save much more by doing this than buying refillable mugs anyway.

Have a great trip!

Does anyone know what they are doing to Roaring Forks for the rennovation? Are they just sprucing up the existing place or are they redesigning it?

True but in my case it's not the money that is the issue. I hate instant coffee so I need to bring my own. I won't drink Dasani so...bring my own. That left me with my eve hot chocolate or a rare soda and since these aren't available it is bring my own hot chocolate and forgo soda.

We are definitely changing resorts. I just hope we can get a room at the All-Star Music. Their food court is the only one that can compare to RF.

Did you ever try their toast?

In case you are unaware, there is a coffee pot in every room with free complimentary coffee (both caff and decaff), plus creamer and sugar. If you need more, just ask housekeeping, they will give you more. We stayed at BC, WL, CR, and AKL last year and had no problem getting extra coffee packs anytime at any of the resorts. So at least that problem is solved. We will be at the VWL Feb. 2-10 and have no problem with RF being closed. We figured, it's a small price to pay if they make it better. With a quick boat ride to Fort Wilderness or the Contemporary, there are plenty of places to eat.

Why is this bad? The place needs rehab, and they are doing it during off season. We all hear complaints about how things are falling apart in WDW, yet when Disney tries to fix things people still complain.

Dont' get me wrong, if I was scheduled to be at WL during this time I'd also be disappointed, but to call it a "bad move" doesn't make any logical sense.

From what I've read, it really needed the rehab. It's been given a beating over the last few years, since it was expanded, and will likely need to be rehabbed quite often, due to the nature of its use at WL. Each resort is unique in that way, and credit to Disney for recognizing the need and taking the appropriate action. We'll make due with it being closed during our visit, as best as we can. Luckily, I believe all deluxe resort rooms now come with fridges, so folks who feel they'll miss the refillable mugs might find themselves best served by filling the fridge with grocery-bought drinks; it'll probably end up being less money that way!

When it posted, the talk was they were taking it away - then the refurbishment was discussed. It would be a bad move to take it away.
But to make it better is great. I'm not crazy - I am logical and pretty smart too.

Does the Contemporary have a counter service for breakfast? Then we could carry on to MK or Epcot by monorail, is this correct? :sunny:

The Contemporary does have a CS restaurant, the Food and Fun center. I believe it's open 24 hours and they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can definitely take the monorail to MK ( or simply walk if you prefer, it's very close ) and you can take the monorail to the TTC and transfer to the Epcot monorail for access to Epcot.

Have a great trip!

Thanks, that sounds like a plan. Would it be better than taking the bus? Or does it take awhile?
