I have decided to switch from dial up to Roadrunner. Can anyone tell me anything that I need to keep in mind regarding firewalls, spyware, and things like that? TIA

We've had RoadRunner for 3 years now. We are in Wisconsin, but I believe the system is the same allover. I know that they have a system that can filter out spam, and there is a system firewall. I know that some junk emails still come through, but haven't had any major concerns. I would probably call their Tech center if you have specific questions. We use it for personal & business and have been very pleased. I could never go back to dial up ever again.... Happy New Year! :sunny:

Road Runner is basically no different than dial-up regarding security except you're available to the internet all the time. Road Runner has a deal with Computer Associates for a anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam, and a spyware protector. Once you sign up with Road Runner, and sign in on the home page you're eligible for all these services...free of charge! We use all of them and they are all excellent...especially the anti-virus. It beats the pants off Norton and MacAfee!! At least that's what is offered in Ohio! Good Luck!

What is the homepage for roadrunner? The guy who connected basically just hooked it up and that was it!! He didn't show me anything!!

The roadrunner homepage is www.rr.com

Along the side will be links. Choose rr extras,(at the bottom) and you will find the info for the Pest Patrol anti-spyware.

My dh said that the best bet is to spend an extra $40 at Best Buy or Circuit City and buy a Linksys, Netgear, router solution etc as a hardware solution as they are much more reliable than the software ones. He is a software engineer by profession. With the hardware solution you don't have to worry as much about the new viruses that come out as it takes the software a little longer to catch up. We've had RR for about 6 years now.

This may not answer anything but I would like to say that I have had roadrunner customer for over 3 years and have been 100% happy.

The outages are few and far between.

I give them a thumbs up.

its funny, i logged on today and i kept getting adv. from roadrunner and its only $29.99 a month, for how long i didnt catch that, but next time ill have to read the details.

The only problem I've had with road runner is when I installed Windows Service Pack 2. It conflicted with EZArmor (which comes with road runner) so I had to turn off the windows anti-virus. That's it.

I just switched to roadrunner with Time Warner Cable. One good feature is that they will pay for your AOL, so you can keep AOL(or get it if you don't already have it), and it will be free. I was pleasantly suprised!
