Leaving in a few weeks for a road trip to Charleston, SC from CT. Wondering what the majority of road travelers do. Do you:

A) Figure a departure time and just throw the ending destination in the NAV and drive and stop as needed.
B) Figure a departure time and plan all your stops and follow a schedule.
C) Just wing it.

We used to be a B family but for this trip I am leaning more towards A with a 4am departure time.

Thoughts

Mostly A.

But if we repeat routes, we find certain places we like to stop along the way for food, gas, etc…, so we become more B like in our travels. :)

B. I'm driving, and I know when I should take breaks/gas up, so I get to plan the stops as well. :)

I'm a combo. I do like to plan enough to avoid high traffic times when going through cities and sometimes to hit lunch or other fun stop along the way.

Generally every trip I plan, I plan out stops so we'll have a plan in place, but the goal is always to deviate as needed/wanted. Funny thing is that if I've planned well enough, we rarely deviate. I know the kinds of things we enjoy so planning helps us fit in that stuff. Otherwise, we'd end up driving right through to the end destination and miss it all.

I use Roadtrippers but I'm usually towing something.
Same here but we combine it with google maps and a few other aids. Because we are towing, we usually use google maps to look at two or three possible stopping places during the trip. We have a little yorkie with us with a little yorkie bladder so we have to stop about every two hours. We have a 35 ft. fifth wheel so that puppy can't fit just anywhere for stops. Rest stops are our friend and Wal-Marts. We also always have a park booked for overnight if our trip is going to involve more than 5 hours, I can't last any longer than that getting beat up in the truck. So I guess that is closer to B. We have multiple stops planned and that way we can stop when needed.

A. We drive to Disney and Myrtle beach both yearly from DC area and we just put destination in gps and stop for breaks when we feel like it. Charleston is beautiful and they have awesome ghost tours and carriage ride tours. Have fun!
