it always seems like every time we drive through Nashville, TN there is a horrendous amout of road work going on. What can I expect this weekend? leaving on Saturday--July 27 :)

Not sure which way you're coming in, but we were just there yesterday. We came in from I 24(From Clarksville), hit Briley Pkw to the airport and didn't encounter any construction. However, we decided to hit Goodletsville on the way home and I believe there is still some there(we got off and took a side road-but traffic was pretty backed up on I 65)

Good luck!

We tear up our roads for entertainment. I-40 on the West side of town is down to one lane from 8 am to Dusk. (That would be coming from Memphis towards Nashville.) I-24 south of town (heading towards Chattanooga is always under construction. Actually, I go I-65 towards Huntsville and cross over at the new I-840 to I-24 just to avoid the part between Murfreesboro and Nashville!.

Tennessee roads and road construction...a never ending saga.

If you drive on a Tennessee interstate you can count on running into some road construction.

I am coming from the North (Louisville, Ky area) down I-65. a friend mentioned a new by-pass around downtown nashville that is supposedly quicker than the Briley and not under construction. any idea about that?

Actually, I go I-65 towards Huntsville and cross over at the new I-840 to I-24 just to avoid the part between Murfreesboro and Nashville

does this add any time to the trip, if so, how much longer is it? anything to avoid that stretch on the way to Chattanooga.....it is awful!

thanks!!!

I am not sure about the northern bypass. I know that 840 will eventually ring the town, but it is only open between I-40 on the east side of town and I65 on the south side.

The way I described seems to take about the same amount of time as the trip down I24. It is longer, but there is not any construction. The entrance to the 840 loop is south of Franklin, TN. It is the second exit after the Franklin Exit (which I think is exit 68) just follow the signs to Murfreesboro.

At work we have a picture of a road construction sawhorse with the saying "Tennessee's State Animal" underneath. I live in a suburb of Nashville that's on the dreaded I24 E b/t Nashville and Murfreesboro. I agree with the OPs who say to bypass it by any means possible! Have a great trip!
