My DD7 really wants to ride this coaster even though she's never been on a coaster in her life  Height wise she should be okay. We have her at 49" however, she is really skinny. Only 45 pounds and I just measured her chest and it's only 23" :earseek: . I'm concerned about the overhead bar and her getting flung around in it. BTDT myself on other rides and it wasn't fun. Is this something I need to be concerned about? I'm assuming it's a pretty smooth ride but how much pull in the curves?

I've already told her she may not be able to ride it if I thought she could get hurt on it. I don't want her to be disappointed, but her safety is my #1 concern.

My son was in kindergarten when he was "big" enough to ride. He is 11 now, and never complained about being thrashed around. Tot is the only ride where we use to get airborn. Now that they have the seatbelt, that doesn' happen to us anymore. The overhead bars do go back quite a bit. I know that I've had trouble myself on some coasters. One in mind is the Great Bear at Hershey Park. I didn't realize that one of the rows accomadated larger guests. I sat in that row and couldn't get the bar back far enough. I was jostled around and did not feel safe. I don't think Rock n Roller has any seats like that. When we sit in the back of rock n roller, I do feel like it is a rougher ride than up front.

I too was concerned when my oldest wanted to ride RnR 2 years ago...He was just over the height requirement and was real skinny...I decided to let him ride and he loved it...that particular ride was my worst cause i was worried about him....He rode it 5 more times that day...and rode hulk at IOA 5 times this past year....Most concerns about rides are our on fears....I agree with you saftey is #1 but Disney sets these requirements and if your child meets them I say let them ride...like me you will hate it the first time but after that you will love it...I treat it as another 1st memory...like the 1st step...your child will be fine and have a blast...maybe take her on BTMR 1st that is a jerky ride and if they can handle that the will lovew RNR...one thing I told my son is to press the side of his head into the shoulder bar that came over his head and that should stop ant head jerks...I do it sometimes if the ride gets bumpy and it works great....have fun

If she has never ridden a roller coaster before, I'm not sure that this one is the one to start with. Do remember that it starts out by going 60 mph in less than 3 seconds and immediately goes into an upside down loop. There is another loop and a corkscrew on the ride. It is a great ride, we did it 5 times during our time down there last month. But I would start her out on something a tad milder before she experiences this. Safety wise she should be okay though. Have a great trip :cool1:

I agree with that. She should start out with The Barnstormer and then BTMR and then Space Mountain. If she gradually builds up and likes those rides, then she could try RnR.

- I really don't think you should let her go on this ride, I've been on it and I know I would not let her ride it, espacially if she's that small!

- But really it's YOUR opinion that make the difference I'm sure you'll make the right desicion... :)

I wouldn't let her. My 6yo dd was just 48" the last time we were at MGM and she's pretty small. She was safe and I don't see how she could have fallen out, but she did get thrown about quite a bit and hated the ride. The reason I would not have her ride, if I were you, though is b/c it would be her first roller coaster. I'd start with milder ones. My dd was terrified and I felt really bad about it. Especially since I should have known better in her case - she doesn't really like going too fast :guilty: . I just didn't think about it until it was too late (specifically when the ride was actually taking off). At the time, we were just excited b/c she was tall enough for the first time. Anyway, I would see how she does on milder rides first.

Think about it, what is the worst that can happen? :rolleyes1

If it's safety you are worried about then don't! The CMs at the ride will stop her from going on if they don't think she is big enough. It's more than height that they look at.
I speak from experience, when my son was first tall enough to ride (he was a hair over the height requirement) we were stopped by the CM at the entrance, and he was not allowed to ride....the reason being that his build was too small.
My DH tried to argue, but I was happoer knowing he'd be safer by not riding.

As far as safety, she'll be fine. However I would start her as others have said, on BTMRR, then move to SM then if she still likes it move to RnRc. The ride is smooth and the G's will keep her back and down in the seat. Ride in the middle for the smoothest ride. Do not ride up front as the wind blowing at you especially on the launch makes it feel faster. Good luck and the ride is great!

I'm sure we'll put her on the smaller coasters before we attempt this one. I do feel better knowing that the CM could stop her from going if they feel she's too small.

My son went on RnR for the first time just a few weeks ago and LOVED it !! He did tell us how he floated up in the seat a few times but didn't say anything about being thrashed around. With that said though he is an adrenaline junkie already at age 7 ! He has been on Space Mountain more times than I can count along with BTMRR , Barnstormer, and Primevil Whirl as well. I'd do what the others suggested and start with a milder one before jumping on RnR :earseek:

My 7 yr old DD is 50" and probably about 60 lbs. She loved RnR when we went last month and rode it 4 times. But she is a thrill seeker and started riding coasters like Space Mountain and the Mattherhorn at DL when she was 4.

As far as the restraint, I'm not sure how tight it will go on a skinny child, but it definitely felt much more secure than the restraint on Space Mountain. In fact, I hated having my DD go on Space because I kept worrying that she could somehow fall out.

RnR is VERY INTENSE. So definitely have her go on other coasters first. If she just tolerates rides like BTMRR and Space Mountain but still seems a little scared of them, she should NOT go on RnR. It is far more intense. If she absolutely loves BTMRR and SM and can't seem to get enough, than she will probably like RnR.

My DD9 rode it for the first time last year. She just made the height requirement (actually they wouldn't let her ride Primevil Whirl in AK). She is just now pushing 50 pounds and 50 inches. They did measure her height but never questioned her small frame. I made sure I sat next to her and tried to hold her with one hand. She did move around a lot but did fine. She actually rode it a couple more times and can't wait to go on it this year.

I don't know if I would let her go on if she is that small. I know what it feels like to go on some roller coasters when the shoulder harness is not tight over you and you are kind of sloshing around... it's scary, evern if you know logically there is no way you are really gonna fall out. Combing that with not ever having gone on a roller coaster before and being shot out at almost 60 miles an hour, it's just a guess, but I would imagine that would be a scary experience.
