Was anyone nervous about letting younger children go on these rides. My ds is 10 and 54in. but he ways only 60lbs. My dd is 7 and hasn't ridden them either. Did your kids get scared having to ride by themselves on sm. How many people can sit on seat at btm. I also have a ds 4 who love gbs and we were wondering about how or whether or not to introduce new rides. My dh says hes taking ds 10 on the rnr and the idea totally freaks me out. HELP

Hi Larklynn,

When our son (he was 7 and tiny) was finally able to ride Space Mtn we were terrified during the whole ride and he had the best time of his life!

On BTMRR you can sit next to someone unlike Space.

My son and daughter are tiny and have been riding R&RC since it opened when they were 12 and 9. Your son and daughter, at their ages, are probably bigger than mine were at 12 and 9 (my son is now 17 and just barely 5 feet tall).

I'd say let your husband take him, you sit it out, and then when you see what a great time they had, you can go back on with them!

Good luck!

Bob

My son has been riding them for several years now. I believe he was ~7 during his first trip and rode space mountain but chickened out on RnR and ToT. The next trip we took when he was 8 he rode both of those (and at that point I was having to explain that they just wouldn't let him on the really big coasters at other parks...lol I created a monster).

IMO if they want to ride it and are within restrictions then by all means let them give it a shot. Don't think I would like the idea of him riding by himself besides it's you're supposed to share your screams with someone or it's just not as much fun :scared1: ::MickeyMo

I think I would echo what the previous poster has said, if your DS or DD want to go on the ride and are the right height, let them. If they don't, don't make them go on it, simple as that, let them choose. My youngest DS chickened out right at the top of the queue sorry line for Space Mountain, aged 5 or 7, cannot remember which time it was. It is a bit daunting to go on a rollercoaster by yourself but I think it is the Mams (Moms) that worry about the kids more, than the kids worrying about going on by themselves.

With the RnR, we tried it for the first time in 2000, the lads were 9 and 11 then. The 9 year old didn't like the fact he fell on to his harness when we went upside down because he was a small person. He still remembers it, five years later, but it is still keen to go on it again especially after we said he has grown so he will feel the seat out more. The other lad went on the Kumba at Busch Gardens at 9 and loved it, though he had to prise his fingers off the hand bar! It very much depends on the kid themselves and I suppose by going on gentler rollercoasters may give an indication on what kind of child you have.

Thanks so much I'll have to post how he does on both of them dd is only 47in. but says she may wear platforms

Mr. B rode Space Mountain for the first time last week... He's only 45 inches tall and weighs about 44 lbs... I was petrified that somehow he would fall out, but once I saw how the lap bar fit, I was OK. It came all the way down to his legs and there was no room on either side for him to go anywhere. He absolutely LOVED IT!!! His first words after the ride - as he was getting out of the seat - "That was AWESOME!! Let's do it again!!"

DD was 7 the first time she rode SM. She is pretty tiny so it took her that long to get tall enough. SHE LOVES IT! She was a little apprehensive about RNR, but DH made the mistake of telling her it did not go upside down (he forgot). Again, she LOVED it!

She has not ventured on to ToT yet. It's not the ride that scares her on that one, it is the theming. She is pretty gullable and believes alot of what she sees. She might try it on our next trip, though.

She did not freak riding by herself on SM. She goes in the middle and DH and I go in front and behind her.

Just please be careful when trying to "fudge" their heights, ie. wearing higher shoes and stuff. The height restrictions are in place for safety!

My 7 year old love SM and RNR....He was 54 inches and 65 pounds....but He absolutely loved the Hulk at IOA.....5 times in a row to be exact....He rode SM 2 trips ago when he just turned 5....I was a little nervous about that

my dd was 5 when she rode sm and rnr for the first time. she was just 48 inches and i wasn't planning on taking her but she loves all kind of thrill rides so i decided to chance it!! she actually rode rnr before sm--i wasn't totally honest with her about it going upside down because she probably would have chickened out!! i was sooooo nervous throughout the entire ride (i couldn't see her face past the shoulder harness), i was afraid that she would be scarred for life!! she loved it and we proceeded to ride it 3 more times!!! sm was a non-issue after rnr. tot is another story though--she's much more afraid of it than any thrill ride. she's 7 now and we're going in 3 weeks--i told her she has to give it a try!!! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

My DS7 (55 lbs) absolutely loves RnR, BTMRR and SM. Hates TOT! DD5 on the other hand loves TOT, BTMRR and SM. This last time she was just barely tall enough for SM. She loved it. She also scared us because she is crazy and rides with her hands in the air. We had to scold her because we freaked!!! She is not tall enough for RnR yet, but it works out well, because DS loves RnR and she loves TOT and DH and I switch kids.

SO the long answer is, it depends on your kids and their comfort level.

The first and last time I road Space Mountain I was amost 5. I couldn't verify my height back then but my mom was pregnant and had my baby brother with her, I wanted to ride and so my Dad took me. It is one of the few vivid memories of that trip. I am a roller coster junky and have been since that trip! :cool1:
