Riverside or French Quarters

We have stayed at PO Riverside before when it was Dixie Landings. We stayed in the Southern mansion part of it. We just got our Visa today and called for reservations using the code. They did not have Riverside so we are staying in the French Quarters. For anyone who has stayed at both, is one better than the other? Should we stay at French Quarters or try to get Riverside if it opens up with another discount? We thought about trying to get it with the code that is supposed to come out on March 9 or with our AP when it comes out.

Also, is there a food court at both or do you have to go to Riverside from FQ to get food?
Thanks for your help.

I just changed my ressie from Riverside to French Quarter. I am looking forward to the newly renovated rooms and smaller resort atmosphere. There is a food court at FQ but you would have to go to Riverside for the sit down restaurant. I have visited both but not stayed at either. I am getting equal opinions about both being better, so I just had to trust my instict. It seems you can't go wrong with either.

DH & I love POFQ. It is smaller and therfore a short walk to anywhere you want to go at the resort. We really like the theming, too. I would love to stay there anytime!

POFQ is my fave of the two. Smaller, closer to Downtown Disney on the boat, and I like the pool and the foodcourt much better. Have not stayed there since, or seen, the renovations, but bet it will have only made it better.

We just got back from POR, and had a blast! We stayed in AB room 2723 and had no complaints. For our upcoming OCT trip we have ressies at POFQ, just to try something new.

I have stayed at POR (love it) but wouldn't mind staying at FQ. The only thing that seems to be a deciding factor for my family is the pool. While FQ does have a very appealing pool, it's the only one. Now, I imagine that depending on what time of year it is, it could get crowded. At POR, if the main pool got too crowded, there was always a quiet, uncrowded pool nearby to our room. But that would be my ONLY reason for choosing POR over FQ.:wave2:

Where is the boat located to go to DTD? Is it on one side or directly between the 2?

What are the bus systems like at PO? Is there a difference between the 2? Last time i went I stayed at CBR and we had to stop at several different "islands" before actually leaving the property. There were a lot of buses.

Are buses crowded? Has anyone been turned away?

Only 1 pool for a 1,008 room resort? Never gonna be quiet there is my guess, but everyone says the resort is quiet....hmmm.....

Ive heard the Food court is great, do they serve better food than the food court at CBR- which was identical to the food in the counter service FCs at the parks. I liked the mickey head shaped waffles....WW will be so history when I get there...LOL!

We've stayed at both resorts. Each resort at Disney is unique and we like everyone we've stayed at.

We like FQ for the following reasons. It is smaller and a close walk to everything. Last March we stayed (during cheerleading weeks) and the only problem was the kids over took the pool. They were staying at POR but wanted to try FQ pool. They were not polite.

We liked the food court at FQ, you could have your burgers cooked to your liking.

FQ is the first pick up for the busses. The bus then goes to POR - all 4 stops - then to the park. On the way back, you are the first to be dropped off. Very convenient. At most of the parks, you share the "stop" with POR. The exception can be MK, so watch for the signs. Sometimes MK has 2 stops (one for POR and one for FQ) and sometimes it is combined.

I would say FQ is more quaint then POR. We always found a quiet spot near the pool and the hot tub was not that crowded (except when the cheerleaders came over).

I would recommend FQ.

I am having the same problem, deciding which one to stay at. I originally booked FQ w/ the Visa code for April. Then the allure of a quiet pool and the romance of the Mansions made me switch over the ressie to Riverside. Oops but then I forgot to book a king room. So its back to The FQ for us, there were none available at Riverside. I have promised myself this is the last time I will modify our ressies. Unless of course the new codes on Tuesday allow us something else. LOL! Anyone else have the same commitment issues?

We've stayed at both and POFQ is our favorite. Actually, POFQ is our favorite Disney resort. We've tried BC, AKL and POR but always go back to POFQ.

As to the boat to DTD, each resort (POR and POFQ) has its own dock. There used to be one boat that stopped at both resorts but last time we were there each resort had its own boat.

AT POFQ the dock is at the end of Bldg. 2 and at POR it is behind the lobby.

I've stayed at both and think they are both wonderful resorts! For me, POFQ edges out POR a little because of its convenience.

It is a smaller resort so EVERYONE is close to EVERYTHING, no matter where your room is.

The convenience combined with the brand new rehab would make POFQ my pick for an upcoming trip.

Don't fret! You're going to have a great time no matter which resort you choose.

Hi everyone:

For the folks that have been to the french quarter port orleans, do they have alot of trees, flowers, shrubs all around the resort. I am looking at the riverside aligator bayou photos and love the trees and shade in that area. But I would switch to the french quarter if the pathways are shaded as well. Thanks

Deb.

cottontail:

I don't remember the paths being quite as shaded as AB at POR, but the lanscaping was very nice. The buildings had lovely shrubs and flowers and wrought iron fences that made the building appear to be separated into houses with their own front yards. The paths were cobblestone and had wrought iron touches and "gaslights" all around.

I just stayed in AB at POR in January and really enjoyed the landscaping, but do prefer POFQ's theming and overall charm.

Remember that POFQ has just been rehabbed, too.

We've stayed at both and prefer POFQ b/c of the smallness of the resort and the convenience! We've stayed at POFQ, POR and AKL, and prefer POFQ over all! I don't think you will go wrong with either, but POFQ is newly renovated and remember much smaller than POR meaning less walking at POFQ!
