Riverside or French Quarter

We have decided to go a quick trip in May. DH wants to stay at PO. Which is better with a 5 year old Riverside or French Quarter. Is there a difference?

Franch Quarter is more "compact"... Riverside is much more spread out, which can mean a lot more walking to get to the main pool or food court area. Your 5 year old may like the slide at FQ better, when my daughters were around that age they liked that slide a lot more. French Quarter has only one pool, while Riverside has a big main pool, plus several "quiet" pools.
If I were you I would go to Deb's site and look at some of the pictures of the two resorts to help you get a better idea of what the two resorts are like.

We have stayed in both. Our 1st preference is POFQ, because of the intimacy. DD likes it because of the Serpent Slide! We also prefer their food court, especially in the morning when they serve those yummy beignets. Another factor that could be important to you, is they just completed a full renovation of all rooms in POFQ, replacing carpet, all furniture, floorings, sinks, draperies, you name it! It is absolutely gorgeous!

If we were to stay at PO-R, we would either request bldg 14 or Partiere Place. Both are very convenient to the main building, but don't feel like it.

Whatever you decide, I am sure you will love it!

I love POFQ. Thinking of changing our reservation from PC and staying there again. I think your daughter would like that best.

We stayed at Riverside (back then, it was still Dixie Landings). There are also fun things for kids, like paddleboats. I would say you can't go wrong with either.

I have never stayed at POR but from what I can see when we visited from POFQ, POR seems to be larger and more spread out. There would probably be more walking involved. POFQ is much smaller and more compact. The pool is great. It has a Dragon Slide. I would ask for a bldg. close to the pool and food court. We like bldg 5 since it is also pretty close to the bus stop. Enjoy

You mentioned the have recently remodled POFQ - with all new furnishings incl. bathroom sinks. Did they happen to add any extra storage at the sink area? I have looked at pictures of the rooms (as they were before with pedestal sinks) and that is the only drawback I could see in the room. I prefer a sink with a countertop so I can "spread out" all my stuff and not have to dig around in my bags all week for toiletries. I know it's a small detail, but that's what I'm into - the details. One reason I love Disney - they are into the "details" too!

I think a 5 y/o would do much better at POFQ. The pool is nice, it's a compact resort, the food court is good and the bus stops first at POFQ so you are almost guaranteed a seat. The resort has also been newly renovated.
Whichever you choose, don't miss Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson perform at the lounge at POR. I think he is there Wed-Sun evenings from 8:30 PM -midnight. He is incredibly entertaining and the kids (and the adults) love him.
We will be at POR in 2 weeks and we can't wait!

We have stayed at the French Quarter twice - my kids are now 15 and 12 and we loved it - none of the rooms are very far from the pool or the lobby area - or the dining room for that matter - the staff was wonderful - the pool was alot of fun - all around a great experience - would probably be staying there again but SOG is now complete so we will be staying there....

Hi familyfun,
I too like to spread out and make myself home in a resort. I don't have an answer concerning the counter space, but I have found a solution. This is widely known on the boards, so I can't take credit for it, but the clear hanging shoe holders. They are plastic and are made to hold about 20 shoes. We hang ours on the closet rod which is very convenient to the sink. It not only keeps everything organized and neat, but you can find items quickly. My husband won't admit it, but I think he likes it as much as I do.

By the way, I have stayed at POR three times. I have no complaints with Alligator Bayou or The Mansions.

does FQ have trundle beds or just Riverside?

I've stayed at both and love both and wouldn't hesitate to stay at either.

That being said, I would lean toward POFQ with a 5 year old. I agree with all previous posts.

The pool area is so whimsical for a child and I'm sure she'll love the large poolside icons.


To me, every building is convenient. We stayed in building 1 and loved the location and we too felt close to the food court. It's also nice that FQ has one bus stop and it was the first pick-up and first drop-off before POR.

Can't go wrong with either one but FQ is a bit more convenient.

According to picture's Deb's site, they look the same as a regular room.

The trundle rooms are identical to the other rooms the only difference is that there is a mattress that slides out from under one of the beds allowing for a smaller person to sleep on.
