I judge hotels on looks. I guess that makes me shallow.:rotfl2: I think both Riverside and French Quarter are lovely according to videos I've seen. I like Riverside's pool better, but like how FQ only has one bus stop. Which do you prefer and why? Getting ideas for my next trip in 2019.

I would decide based on what atmosphere you are looking for. If you want a little more quiet and spread out go for Riverside. If you want a to be in a more concentrated area with quicker access to everything go for FQ. I really like the Alligator Bayou section of Riverside myself because while I've stayed in Magnolia Bend it is a little too secluded for my liking.

Personally, I prefer French Quarter, but let me play both sides here.
French Quarter - Smaller, quieter, better decorated and themed (in my opinion). On the other hand, there isn't as much recreational activities, there is only one hot tub, and it's small, and because of it's capacity and the fact that they never really have an issue filling rooms, it's very rare (if ever), that they offer any kind of discount, deal, or incentive.
Riverside - I haven't stayed here, but I would jog through it when staying at FQ. It certainly has a lot more to do, seems to have more privacy, and more access to pools and hot tubs. Their theming is also a lot grander on the size scale than FQ. On the other side, it's HUGE! If you don't pay for a preferred room, you could possibly be staying at the other end, which means that it is probably a 5-10 minute walk. In my opinion, the signeage isn't that great, so navigating around isn't it's strong suit.

I’m pretty sure the refurb will be done by 2019. If I understand correctly, POR will start a refurb when POFQ is done.

Do you have any idea if the refurb is going to be anything like they're doing with Pop? The Murphy bed is a big turn off since it has to be up if we want to use a table. I like having a table in my room , but don't like what's being done at Pop.

I love POR but we passed on this trip because we didn't want to pay for a preferred room so we're doing POFQ. I prefer the theming at POR and the table service restaurant is there. With a toddler and the grandparents, I thought the more compact resort of POFQ would be a better fit.

I guess it really depends on what you're looking to do...

I would look at the size of the resort and the food at the food court and go from there. I love both resorts, each has there good side, it just depends on what is most important to you, and they have the advantage of being so close together that you can enjoy them both, esp. the shops, the food, and the atmosphere.

It all depends. We prefer FQ because it's a bit quieter and less sprawled out. Some of the rooms at Riverside are REALLY far from the main pool and the dining. Riverside has more to do overall though, so if you plan on spending a lot of time at the resort, it might be better. We usually just sleep and have breakfast at the resort. We found it a pain to try to load up for the day (with a stroller) and then have to walk 5-10 minutes to get to the food court at POR in the morning. We much preferred the compact size of FQ.

POFQ family here. We have stayed at both, um well we stayed at Dixie Landings several times, and we moved over to POFQ after it reopened post 911 slow period. Really, the only thing missing at POFQ is a sit down restaurant and I would like it better hands down. Love the grounds at both. They keep them looking like the grounds at a deluxe, often better.

We are POR people and have been for several years! We love the tropical feel of AB and always stay there. The winding paths over little bridges are great. It always feels peaceful and secluded, and it feels like no one else is there. I know, that's an illusion, but one that works in the bayou area:)
We always stay as close to the main bldg. as we can due to mobility issues, but don't do preferred. Bldg 26 and 27 are really nice and close enough to the Mill. We love eating at the Mill and their variety of offerings can't be beat. All the food we have tried has been great. Love the gift shoppe in POR too. I guess we love everything about it. There is always a bus stop close by, so no problem there. So, one big vote for POR!

I vote for POR - Royal Guest, River View Room, if you can spend a little extra. The Royal Guest rooms have great theming and the River view locations makes them just an easy walk over the bridge to the food court, restaurant, lounge, and store.
If you haven't checked it out, a great resource is portorleans-dot-org.

Having stayed twice at each resort I vote is FQ hands down (if we had not upgraded to AKL for next trip this is were we would have stayed). It smaller and more compact. Everything is at most a 5 minute walk. At Riverside you could end up needing hiking shoes. Riverside has a nice sit down restaurant but that is only a 15 minute walk from FQ. I also lean towards FQ because of the way they have treated us. I always book standard rooms and in Riverside that is what I got. At FQ the 1st time they upgraded us to a nice garden view and the last time they said Welcome Back and gave us 2 river view rooms.

Having stayed at both, Riverside is lovely and I would stay there again if they improved their bus service. The pool at riverside is bigger then FQ.

We prefer the look and feel of POR and the convenience of POFQ. We will book whichever based on best rate. If the rate is the same, we tend to book POFQ.

Having stayed at both, I vote for POR. The pool is much nicer than POFQ, and I have always enjoyed the "Fishin' hole". Plus, I like the food court much better. But it's strictly a matter of preference. Both are great.

I have stayed at both, but we prefer POR because it has a more relaxed feeling to us, a nice respite from the hubbub of the parks. FQ felt very visually "loud" to us. YMMV...

I like POFQ better because it is so compact. It felt like everything was close and quick to get to. The theming is very pretty too. My daughter loved it and now wants to visit the real French quarter.
