Is it really necessary to have a FP for ROL? Has anyone had any issues getting seats?

We chose the second showing of ROL as one of the FastPasses two weeks ago. We were crammed into one of the middle sections, which is prime seating. They sure squeezed everyone into that area. But the two left and two right sections were wide open for anyone to walk in and sit down.

In retrospect, I wish I had not tied up one of my FP selections with ROL. The show is okay, but I could've scheduled my FP earlier in the day and sacrificed the center view for the chance at more rides.

Disclaimer: this was in June 2017, and the parks didn't seem all that crowded this June. Maybe FP are essential if you want the first showing or during a busier time of year.

If you're seeing the first show or there's only one showing during the day, then a FP can help you. A month or so ago standby for one show a night was at capacity 60 min prior to showtime

If you're attending a second showing, I wouldn't bother with a FP

Thanks everyone! There are two showings the day I go, so I'll definitely do the last one. I'm glad I asked because I really did not want to sacrifice one of my FP's.

I wouldn't waste a FP on it even if there was only 1 showing. Didn't think it was that great.....

We are going the first week of September and there is only one showing each night. Do you think we will need to line up or wait long to see the show then without FP?

We just set up the meal and FP combo. We are having brunch in the park and it gave us FP type seating without wasting a FP.

I'd get there 60 or more minutes ahead of showtime for 1 showing with no FP
