Hi everyone! We got our goodie box from ABD for our river cruise - just curious, do guests wear the name lanyards on the river cruises? I know they are structured a bit differently than the land tours - I just didn't know if we should pack them or not. Thank you!

No one wore them on our ABD Danube River Cruise. I brought mine, but never wore it. Now that they are again handing out the pins daily, you may want to bring it to put your pins on, but not wear. I vaguely remember that the lanyards we used to get were slightly different and I would always wear it each day and put my pin on it. However, I wasn’t wearing it to display my name. At some point, I want to say that we were asked not to wear them so that we didn’t advertise that we were ABD; however, the paddle of power does that anyway. The ABD guides will know everyone’s name and you introduce your party during the welcome dinner or breakfast. You can just ask anyone what their name is, so the name tags really aren’t necessary.

Thank you so much!

I think a lot of people wore one on our Seine River cruise at the end of June this year. My daughter and I wore the lanyards without names. Many people had nicely styled names on theirs. It may be a question of the number of groups in the same area. Viking River Cruises and Tauck ships stopped at the same locations on the Seine. In fact, twice they were "rafted" together, so that we went through the reception areas of other ships to reach the docking spot.

Actually, I think it would be interesting to compile statistics on the use of the lanyards by groups, according to the age of the oldest traveler in the group. I would guess older travelers are more likely to wear the lanyards. Just a guess. One great feature of the Disney river cruises over the others--at least for me--was the number of children and teenagers on the cruise. Disney offered activities for the younger travelers (and some middle-aged) that I don't think Viking River Cruises or Tauck offer.
