My DW and I stopped in a local Ritz Camera last night just to see and physically hold a few cameras we are considering purchasing (we looked at the Nikon D50 & Rebel XT this time) and one thing that they offered were free weekly classes on how to use your new camera.

Has anyone heard anything about these classes - how usefull they are, etc?

I realize we'd pay a bit more money through a retailer like Ritz on a new camera and all the accessories, but if the classes are good, it might be worth the trouble in order to get more out of our pictures, etc.

What do ya'll think? :confused3

We don't have Ritz in Canada but the equivalent to that is Henry's. If Ritz class is anything like Henry's, not only it's a waste of money (paying for gas), it's a waste of time too.

My friend received the Rebel XT as a Christmas present and she was offered the class at a discounted price. When I asked her if she learned anything, she said... I know how to take a picture with fluorescent lights.

Um... okay! Basically the class was shown the basic settings on the XT. Changing ISO, changing white balance, things like that. I can't say that I would spend $60 to hear what is written in the Canon manual. Sorry.

Oh - and for her class they didn't talk about what to do with your pictures, other than bring your card into us and we will print them. :)

I've never heard of Ritz charging for their class, to the best of my knowledge it's free, I'd check with another Ritz, or contact corporate headquarters, I think she was ripped off by a local manager...
