Yesterday I deposited a rebate check into my bank account from RA (via ATM) and today the bank called to say this was not a "money check" but a check that was only good at RA for merchandise. They took the $$ back out of my account and were going to give the check back but couldn't find it (said they'd mail it to me when they did find it). It's been a year or two since the last time I got a rebate check from Rite Aid, so maybe things have changed, but I'm sure in the past I've cashed these checks for $$. :confused3 It doesn't really matter either way, but I couldn't find these details on the RA FAQ. Anyone else "cash" their rebate checks?

I haven't gotten this past month's check yet,but the ones I've had have always been regular old checks. I wonder if the bank is confused?

If there are those funny looking numbers on the bottom (micre-encoding, numbers), then it is a check. If you look at one of your own checks, ou will see that the numbers correspond to check number, routing number for your bank and then the account number. Since it has been so long, you probably don't remember what it looked like!
Do you still have a receipt for the deposit? A statement showing the deposit? If they cannot produce the check, it is not right for them to take it out of your account!
I would contact Rite Aid and see if they can help you out...if the check was large enough to make it worth your time.

I'm not sure. They were going to show me "the fine print" on the check that said it was only to be used at RA, but like I said, they couldn't find it. So I don't know what the check actually said. They did say they'd had about 3 other checks deposited by other customers lately that they'd had to reverse. Anyone have a check in hand that they can read the fine print?

I have my check from June that I haven't cashed yet. On the top it says, "Use your check toward any purchase at a Rite Aid location!" However, it still looks like the regular check. I'm not sure if they all have had this on there because i have never had a problem depositing them. It has a Pay line and to: with my name and address. Not valid after 90 days. On the back of the check it is just like a regular check:
Endorse check here

OP, I think your bank is mistaken. This is just a regular check. I think that line is just a marketing suggestion to use your money at rite aid after you cash the check.

eta: the top has their bank account# , check # and date. The bottom has their routing number, account#, and check#. This looks like ALL of the other checks I've received. I would tell your bank to process it and then see if it bounces. I bet it won't.

I'm sure it will surface and they'll mail it to me, but the person that had emptied the ATM machine was out of the building at the time I stopped by so the other gals weren't sure where it had been placed. It was only $8 so it isn't going to break me. I don't recall whether there were routing numbers along the bottom or not. It had been travelling around on the floor of my van for a week so when waiting for DS to finish football practice I whipped into the ATM, ripped the bottom edge off, signed the back and shoved it in the slot...just figured it was a check!
