A tragic accident, a life cut short.

RIP, Phillip Hughes. You will be missed.

I can't go on facebook at the moment because my husband is a bug cricket fan, his friends and he all play, he is a captain and coach and my feed is filled with this tragic news, it's just too sad.

You think the worst that could happen on a cricket pitch is maybe a broken finger or two, maybe a ball to the leg, and very rarely a hit to the helmet, but death is never one of the thoughts in my mind.

My husband used to play against Clint Mackay... It scares me that he could have been on the receiving end of a very fast ball.

A tragedy for Phil's family and friends and a devastating outcome for poor Sean Abbott. What he must be going through.... It's heart breaking

Terribly tragic. I am so shocked and saddened. RIP

Very tragic accident. Just a freak occurrence and it's not something that you could imagine happening.

I feel for his family and fellow cricketers, particularly Sean Abbott, who I hope is getting the proper support at this time.

So tragic and so young. RIP

From all reports, Sean Abbott is getting loads of support from Cricket Australia and counselling. It was stated today that they will provide even more support and counselling now that he has passed.

Such a shocking tragedy. Feel sick in my stomach. Can't image what his family and friends are going through.

It's just so incredibly sad. 25 is far too young to go. Seeing the stream of team mates today going in to visit him, just made my heart sink. They were goodbyes. Heartbreaking.

Echoing everyone else's sentiments. Such a tragic accident and impacts on so many who now have to cope with the future, but accidents are also part of life which is why its so important to take time and "enjoy the roses" and those special moments with family and friends.

Exactly this.

RIP Phillip Hughes

I'm not at all into cricket, and didn't even know who he was until DH told me. What a tragic accident :sad2: Any loss of life at only 25 years old is devastating.

I also feel for the guy who threw the ball (sorry I don't know names or terminology) and think it's great that he is getting so much support.

Threw = bowled
Guy = Sean Abbott

See, you DO learn something new every day ;-)

But yes, though Phil Hughes' family would be totally devastated right now, I can't imagine what Sean Abbott must be going through.
Cricket australia are providing him with as much help and counseling as possible as it will take a lot for him to move on from.
