RIP Kingda Ka 2005-2025, Kinda Kapow

Six Flags should be ashamed of how they handled this. A landmark coaster removed with zero advanced notice given to their customers.

Sorry but my how times have changed.
Twenty years and now it’s a landmark😉
I meant that more as it was the tallest operating roller coaster in the world. It’s important enough that people like me who live 700 miles away know about it. :-)

Here’s hoping they build another that is even bigger, faster and more loopy in the same space 😎

From what I’ve read, it was extremely costly to operate and a maintenance nightmare. Not worth keeping it anymore.

No doubt many coaster aficionados are sad. I myself never cared for it. Once was more than enough.

I think the era of the super-coaster is essentially over; most of them cost so much to maintain that the parks barely broke even on the investment, and with lawsuits for injuries often going badly, it's just not that attractive a proposition any more.

I think that the use of VR is going to be the future; they will combine it with much less mechanically-delicate ride systems to make riders feel like they are in a much more intense experience than they actually are.

At the end of the day, all it did was go up, and down the big phallic symbol.

It wasn’t a terribly guarded secret. I understand a group of enthusiasts did gather to get in one last ride.

If Cedar Point can get thrir “new and improved” version working, they can play the “mine is the biggest” game.
As of a couple weeks ago, they say that they'll be ready to open Top Thrill 2 by opening day (early May). We'll see - kind of like Kingda Ka, it's had more than it's share of technical and mechanical issues in it's lifetime.

Kings Dominion did the same with Anaconda, after the summer season oh btw we are getting rid of it. As well as the Beserker.
Luckily my DGD 9 was able to ride it several time right before then.

A couple weeks ago they announced a couple kids rides are going away.

But at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, they are doing a modern version of Big Bad Wolf so I’m psyched.

I still miss The Volcano Blast coaster at Kings Dominion. I haven’t ridden Anaconda in many years so I’m not upset about its removal. I hear they are getting a new coaster Rapterra where Volcano used to be.

I also miss the original Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens, although Volboten (sp?) is an excellent replacement. The new BBW is going where the dreadful Drachen Fyre used to be.
