I flew in to Orlando last night. When I woke uo this morning I have one ear that is ringing. It doesn't hurt, but it feels plugged. Does anyone have any ideas on how to treat this myself?

Your allergy medicine is probably an antihistamine. If the ringing is cause by unequal pressure in your ears, those won't help, but a decongestant will. If you're absolutely sure that isn't the problem, then you need to see a doctor.

I have to ask, do you use the nasal spray every day? Long term use (more than a few days) can cause serious damage to the lining of your nasal passages. Make sure you mention that to the doctor.

OK thanks. The nasal spray is a prescription. I bisited my doctor a couple of weeks ago and went over everything.

Try the snorkeling equalization thing...plug nose and swallow. If not see if you can get Debrox ear cleaner from Garden Grocer or some place nearby and start chewing gum, the motion can help bring fluids downward.

My sister's ears wouldn't pop on a flight when she was a child and she was very uncomfortable and unhappy. The stewardess recommended putting a hot washcloth in a cup and putting the cup over her ear. It helped reduce the pressure which in turn reduced the pain. Maybe that would help you. Good luck and hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
