I'm a righty.

Fun fact: Only 10% of children are left-handed.
ETA: As in writing. :)

I'm left handed.

I read somewhere (most likely Wikipedia) that left handed people are about 25% richer then right handed people on average.

You forgot an option for both.

Is it scientifically possible for a child to pick up a pencil with both hands and be able to write equally the same?
And no, I'm not talking about being ambidextrous.

True, I remember reading somehwere that left handed peple are more successful in life

im a righty

I'm a righty as far as writing and eating goes. I don't ever use my left hand for eating, so I have a very hard time cutting steak and stuff, as I can't hold the fork properly.
But I use my left hand for opening my locker at school, unbuttoning things, and probably loads of other things.
I just have things I like to do with my right, and things I prefer to do with my left.

I'm both sometimes...

'Cause I write with my right hand but I do lots of stuff with my left hand like using scissors, eating, putting on make-up etc.

I never cut food with my right hand.. I just can't do it lol xD

I seriously hate whenever someone says "both".

Honestly no.
You have a preferred hand. Whatever that is, thats the hand you write with; your dominate hand.
You may be able to pick up a pencil and right your name neatly with the other hand, but that is NOT being ambidextrous. Most times you right with your right hand (or your left) but if you NEEDED to you COULD write with your other hand.

It really does get on my nerves when rightys say "Ohh, i'm ambidextrous so i'm a lefty too :)"

It doesn't really work that way.

ALSO, i quote from David Wolmans book "A left-hand turn around the world" he says

"Mixed-handed people, by the way, are not ambidextrous. Mix-handed means exactly what it implies, preferring one hand for some everyday tasks and the other hand for others. In common usage, "ambidextrous" has become a frequrent substitute for mixed-handed, though the strict definition is equal dexterity with either hand for all tasks, a condition that is quite rare, perhaps one or two people in 1,000."

Seriously, i didnt know anything about being a lefty until i read his book..what a masterpiece.

Anywho..so yes.

Thats why it bothers me when people say "I'm ambidextrous"

Sorry, this is a freakishly touchy subject for me.

Oh, and I'm a lefty. :teacher: (< whats funny is, that smiley seems to be lefty too)

Yeah just saying, while I'm not sure if any of you thought I was saying I'm ambidextrous because I'm not obviously. I wouldn't be able to ever use both hands equally and be equally talented with them. I cannot write with my left, it looks worse than the stuff from kindergarten, and I couldn't even spell back then..
