Riding with the monorail pilot?

The reason WDW stopped was because the cause of the accident was when the monorail car was supposed to back up and switch tracks. The switch didn't happen causing the accident. The accident killed the pilot. A 20 year college student/Disney employee. I was very disturbed to hear and then verify that there is a video of the accident on youtube.

Anyways, the reason it never stopped at DLR is because DLR doesn't have the same track switch system at WDW that caused the accident.

Originally is was just an attraction. While it still is it also exits DL and goes to DTD near the DLH. So for many it is effective to use as transport to and from the park. But fun anyway.

It is a great way to see Tomorrowland, DTD and part of Fantasyland from above.

Kind of. Of course it closes as the park does, so you won't be waiting in line until 2am when the park closes at 12. But it probably won't be faster than walking to the M&F trams which are a hundred yards past the gate. The DTD station is about half way between the gates and M&F so it still would leave you plenty of walking almost a quarter mile if you took the monorail out.

I believe that DL did stop allowing people up front for a while after 911 (you could still ride in back). But I do not recall how long that lasted as we have been able to ride up front again for many years now.

I have never been told that we had to get out at DTD unless it was during a time that all guests had to get off (example: during the Nemo construction). I am very surprised that a CM made people get off because others were waiting. We asked for the front car last Sunday and were told that we could have it if the people riding there got off. They didn't and we rode in one of the other cars.

This may have been it. I just remember that we could ride but they let us ride in the back.

The CM did NOT make them get off, he asked if they would disembark so we could ride in, the family was very gracious and said yes that they would disembark. No one MADE them disembark and I know for sure that even if they didn't get on the next monorail at the DTD station they would have gotten on the same one they let us have because no one got on after us, I watched to see.

Rode in front two weeks ago. You have to be in the first five to request it, and in my experience it doesn't hurt to have a kid with you -- although it's not required. We didn't try to ride round trip, so no info on that. Just DL to DTD.

Yes, because the monorail has a stop inside TL you have to have valid park entrance for the day.

We were in DTD and asked to ride up front, we were told to hang out and wait for the driver and yes, we could ride up front. It was not a busy day but the driver did already have a family riding in front with him. Once he stopped he let them know that since we were waiting to ride in front they would have to disembark. I do believe they were allowed first chance at riding in the rear of the monorail if they were going back in. They were very polite about it, got out and said "can we wait here to ride back in in the front?" and they were told yes they could. Now I don't know if was that specific driver or day but they were asked to let us ride so we didn't have to wait.

Well, perhaps your OP was a bit misleading then.

Well, perhaps your OP was a bit misleading then.

You are correct, I did make it sound that way but he was not ordering them off. When we got there the first thing the CM at the gate said was "if someone else is in front you'll have to wait" we were fine with that. The pilot did ask them he did not tell them to disembark, so yes, I misspoke in my first post. Altho we have been riding in the front and at the station we have been told we did have to get off, it didn't bother us, we just got off and let the other guests ride. We don't use the monorail as a "ride" really, we use it to get to and from DTD so for us it's usually a one way ride anyway.

You can take a stroller on the monorail, but most of the time the CMs will ask u do fold it up when u get in. Sometimes they don't ask u to fold it up. U can take your own stroller on the monorail but I believe you can take the rental stroller on the monorail.

Heh, Heh...Well the folding part will be the determining factor! I pack so much crap into my stroller that it would take me 10 minutes to try to move it all! Maybe we'll at least try!!

I've always been told to fold mine. Sometimes we run into the same problem that it is loaded down and decide to walk.

We rode the front of the monorail from Tomarrowland round trip around 9:40 am. No problem with staying on board.

No problem I admit, I had to go back to reread the first post to make sure that I hadn't misread it

We actually don't use it that often either unless we need a break to sit down for a while. My kids thought it was really cool when we were at WDW that the monorail was actually used as transportation. I think they have always viewed it as a ride at DL, LOL.

the new monorail cars are smaller, there really isn't any room for an open stroller on it. You will very likely be instructed to fold it.
