I don't like drops AT ALL. But I usually try everything at least once. I was just wondering which rides have drops so I know to look out for them when I go in August! I've been to Disney many times, but after my second day in Disney in March I chickened out on all roller coasters after going on the Tower of Terror....it traumatized me. :sad2:

Also, how was Mission: Space for you guys? I wanted to try it, but I'm worried about the spinning. I used to be able to handle it w. no problem, but as I get older (even tho I'm only 20) I can't handle spinning. I become really dizzy for the rest of the day. I could go on the alternative version, but I kind of feel like if I go on Mission: Space it has to be the original version.

Does anyone take motion sickness medication or do anything else so that the spinning doesn't effect them?

I'm all ears!
:listen:

Yeah i know how you feel about the drops.... I think you are really brave for going on tower of terror. You should have tried rockin roller coaster, it doesn't have any drops. At MK Splash mountain (obviously) has a very large drop, space mountain also has a pretty good drop in it too. Also big thunder mountain has one drop in it too, but it's not to bad. I think those are the only rides to worry about, but like you said it doesn't hurt to try it once. Have fun! :Pinkbounc

POTC has a small drop as does the ride in Norway. MS now has a side that does not spin. You may choose to ride the side that does spin or the side that does not. I've never riden it, but plan to ride the non-spinning side the next time we go to Epcot.

I don't know about others, but on Mission Space the spinning did not feel like spinning. It just exerts G forces so you feel like you are pushed back in your seat (like if you take off at a green light in your car, only a lot lot lot faster). You don't notice the spinning to get you dizzy at all.

The Space Mtn 'major' drop (2 seconds ish of air time) is about 3/4 of the way thru the ride, if that helps the anticipation.

No major drops, per se in Thunder Mountain- it is more of a corkscrew type coaster.

Splash Mtn has the one - and is an Awesome ride. Almost wish there was a no drop version so little kids could see it...

As for mission space, it is nothing like the teacups, etc. The only problem you get is: (and I will try to not use big terms) - you have no outside reference for the spinning, so, in effect, your brain is fooled into thinking you are blasting into space. The problem is, since your brain is fooled into thinking 'I am not spinning' (the fluid of your inner ear equalizes and you feel straight as a board) - you can put yourself 'On Tilt' by any major movement of your head - this throws the fluid in your ear out of whack and your internal gyro 'spins off'
So... if you decide to ride it, it is easy to minimize the risk of getting sick: Look straight ahead through the monitor. If you want to look around, keep your head planted where it is and move your eyes only (thus, not disturbing the fluid in your inner ear), and - Have Fun! You are going to Mars, you know :smooth: You can PM me for more information (or anyone else can, for that matter) if interested.

As for motion sickness pills- I am a pilot, so don't need to take them. In training, however, the Flight doc told me that 'ginger' helps (we can't take meds and fly, so this Over the counter herb was about it). GNC sells ginger in pill form for CHEAP - or you can use ginger snaps. Worked for me in the beginning, and I was doing things that were WAY more intense than Mission Space - and now I need nothing.

Concur with the others, btw: VERY minor drops in Pirates and Maelstrom (both are low speed, so 'stomach drop' is minimized)

Sorry for the lengthy response.

Well thanks! :goodvibes I was going to go on RnR, but I had gone on ToT first and pretty much decided to sit on a bench while the rest of my group went off and went on it without me

I LOVE ToT, but am very concerned about going on Mission Space, I think I will go on the green version first. Im not as worried about EE, but I am assuming its pretty intense. For some reason R&R makes me a little sick feeling. I went on a harness only roller coaster in KNotts Berry Farm in CA, and when I got off I could hardly walk because I had done 8 360 circles, and 3 corkscrew spins. Do you think its more of the drops for you, than it is the upside down motion that makes you feel sickish? If it is, I think R&R would be fun for you. I know my DH loves it, but he kinda flips out on T&T.

I don't like the weightlessness feeling, but I actually didn't mind EE as much as the others because it drops and then curves so I didn't feel it as much. I can deal w. upside down motions because I never realize if I'm coming or going haha... and 8 360 circles and 3 corkscrew spins?! good god! :faint:

Rides with drops (even small ones):
PoTC
Maelstrom
Splach Mountain
Space Mountain
BTMRR
Tower of Terror

As for Mission: Sapce...well if you are prone to dizziness or motion sickness, don't ride it. Despite "assurances" from others that you don't feel/sense the spinning, baloney. I was messed up for most of the day after riding it. Stick to the non-spinning side if you'd like to try it.

PS...my DH LOVES Mission: Space. I think it's a great concept and am thrilled that there is another option for me to try. DH will ride the intense version when we go...but it makes him queesy too. He likes it anyway!

Only if you consider coming out of a loop as part of a drop. RnR is twisty and corkscrewy but has no sudden drop or a drop after a lift. It banks sharply and goes upside down. Also Expedition: Everest has a drop.

Honestly on RR, the music was so loud, and we were going so fast, IN THE DARK I never even knew when we were upside down that much. All you see are signs and stuff wizzing by, and your ears are ringing from the music and people screaming that you come to a stop and you think....WOW...Its a great way to cool off though!

So EE drop isn't that bad? I wouldn't mind the drops if it didn't feel like i left my stomach somewhere else. :confused3

Honestly, I didn't mind it at all. I remember closing my eyes when I saw that we were gonna drop and thinking "OH N-...wait thats it?" And my dad (who loves roller coasters) said that you don't feel it as much if you have your eyes open...so I might go on EE again and keep my eyes opened for the drop. I may not feel anything at all! Try it! It's really fun!
:thumbsup2

Can someone explain to me how bad space mountain would be for someone who does not like big drops at all? I literally almost passed out after I got off Tower of Terror ( you should see my pic from that, its horrible lol), but my family keeps begging me to go on Space Mountain. I don't believe them when they say its not that bad but I kind of want to try it, so whats your advice for me to all those who've been on it?

The drops on SM really aren't that bad. The issue for many people though, is that it's in the dark, so it's hard to prep your stomach for the quick drops. The SM drops are a breeze compared to ToT, and the coaster is actually pretty slow compared to more modern rides. It sort of feels like how your stomach drops when you're driving on a hilly road, with a bunch of short drops. If you don't like the idea of not knowing when the drops may hit, SM may not be for you.

I'd say that even if you managed to survive ToT, you should give SM a chance. At least you won't have any regrets.

Yeah from someone who cried coming off of ToT  and who doesn't even like the drop on Space Mountain...I would go on that before ToT again any day. Like Brocktoon said, the issue I had mainly w. Space Mountain was that I didn't know when I was going to drop. I didn't like that. But try everything cuz you never know if you'll like it! :goodvibes

I'm 23 and rode Space Mountain for the first time last year. I'm still embarassed I left the ride in tears. I don't know if it was the drops (there definitely is at least one) or the speed, or what. But I didn't like it. :sad2:

Good luck to you! :)

I am so glad there are other fully grown adults who can come off rides like space mountain and cry (although my most recent one was actually goofy's barnstormer, which I think might put me into another category entirely...)

I didnt find Maelstrom too bad at all, I think going backwards makes it better. I don't like the POTC drop very much (grip so hard my fingers hurt) but the rest of the ride is worth it. Splash Mountain and Tower of Terror are complete no-gos for me (although I've tried both and would love to be brave enough to go on splash again having watched song of the south so I could appreciate the storyline). After what people said about RnR I am considering trying that one next time I go.

I actually found mission space a bit boring. No Disney characters, and it didnt really feel like I was moving anywhere at all, just a slightly odd squashing sensation. I used to get motion sickness, but am much better now so I dont know how your experience of it would compare to mine.
