Hi friends,

We are leaving for DL tomorrow. I am 30 weeks pregnant (about 7.5 months). Obviously I will be avoiding roller coasters and such, but wondering if there are any rides that pregnant women are actually not allowed on? Will I be able to go on Pirates?

If it has a height restriction, don't ride it! If you were 6 weeks, I might say something different, but definitely avoid height restricted rides.

I think the height restriction is pretty accurate for expectant mothers, too. Pirates will be ok for sure.

So I just was playing around and found you can search rides by expectant mother advisory -

The list is smaller than I expected. I'm pretty sure when I was pregnant with my youngest I wasn't allowed to ride SOC but it's not on this list.

Well in the 1960s my mother rode a carnival ride like Mater (tilt a whirl) and gave birth to my last sister 10 hours later.

I was told by my obgyn if my 30 inch 18 month old could ride it, I could too!

Avoid Tower of Terror. Unless you don't mind a trip to the E.R. Indy. Splash. Materhorn. Space Mountain.
Even Grizzly River will probably make you nauchious. That is all I can think of right off. These are my personal suggestions, I don't remember all of Disney's suggestions.

The one exception to the "if the little ones can ride it..." is the Autopia. Since you can get bumped very unexpectedly from behind by the beginning drivers, that's one that seems innocuous but is one to avoid.

Sea World, however, is crazy protective. I was about five or six months along and they wouldn't let me ride Elmo (their version of Dumbo) or anything else in the kiddie area. It wasn't just a suggestion but they refused to let me ride.

Agreed about getting bumped unexpectedly from behind. I did ride Autopia but my husband rode with one of our sons (I had the other) behind me to ensure this wouldn't happen!

When we went I was 13 weeks pregnant and rode a few the link above from Disneyland's website suggested I avoid. Whoops. My son is a healthy, happy 1 year old though so I think following your gut and what you feel comfortable with is the most important thing.

Disney won't tell you that you CAN'T ride, but there are pregnancy advisories. I would avoid Star Tours (shaking, jolts), the Mountains, California Screaming , and Tower of Terror.

Those are the ones that come to mind right away.

I went to Disneyland once when I was five months pregnant. I avoided the Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tower of Terror, etc.. I know I know, all the good stuff. But there was plenty I DID enjoy. And yes, you'll be fine riding Pirates. I did with no problems. Have a fun trip!

Soarin' had a restriction early on, not because of danger, but because it was known to cause nausea. Another one I would avoid is Autopia also, not just for the bumping, but the fumes. Basic rule of thumb is if there is a height requirement, I'd avoid. Racers really doesn't go that fast, and I always thought "I wouldn't worry about that one, no different than driving on the streets", until one time there was a back up, and we were racing to the checkered flag, and the ride stopped. Not slowed down to a stop, it pretty much just dead stopped (30mph to 0....) Then I thought "That woulnd't be good for DIL" who was pregnant.
