Rides that spin (avoiding motion sickness)

Just a quick fyi, it's NOT Ipecac, Ipecac is what you give someone when you WANT them to vomit, not as a motion sickness medicine. I know there is something you can use, in fact there are quite a few somethings you can use, Hyland Motion Sickness medication comes to mind...but please, don't take Ipecac......

lol, yes, it actually IS ipecac. not the ipecac syrup you buy in the little bottle on the baby aisle at toys r us, but small pellets in a bottle purchased at the health food store.

that's essentially how homeopathy works....you take something that under normal circumstances would cause those symptoms (ie: nausea). if you take it when those symptoms actually exist, the remedy counteracts the symptoms.

When I was little they got rid of ipecac for a while..until then it was AMAZING. It either 'cured or killed' as my mom used to say.

It'd either make you feel better or make you throw up. LOL

I suffer from motion sickness but love to ride. I take dramamine and it totally does the trick. I fall asleep if in the car, but have no trouble at all in the parks and on the go.

I've heard something about a patch that a doc can Rx that you place behind your ear. There are stories about people who could never ride in a car through the mountains, on a boat, let alone a theme park ride without being sick to their stomach or getting a really bad headache. They're prescribed particularly for cruises. I'm not sure what it's called, but I've heard wonderful things about that patch. There are also accupressure bracelets you can wear to help with motion sickness, I've heard mixed results about those however.

Splash surprisingly gives me motion sickness. if i ride it multiple times a day i get that just got off a boat feeling.

The patch is scopolamine, I was on a cruise a few years ago and was sick but saw several people with the patch behind their ears who said the patch was what was keeping them for getting sick. I might look in to getting a Rx from my doctor before I go just in case.

Thanks for all the tips from everyone on what to avoid. When I get motion sickness it lingers for a few days, so I don't want my trip ruined by one or two bad rides. Since I'll be there with a 2 year old and a 6 months pregnant wife I doubt I'll be going on too many wild rides, but it never hurts to be prepared.

My son who gets ill on most motion rides uses "transdermscop" patches and gets sick on nothing while they are behind his ear. Life and fun is much improved. He tried garlic and other homeopathic remedies but they did not work.

I am really interested in these patches. As I have gotten older I have gotten more sensitive to the motion of some rides. I'd love to be able to go and ride everything without worrying that I will get the motion sick nausea and headache. Do I need to go to the doctor to get the patches or is there an over the counter remedy that will work? I don't think I can afford the doctor's fee just to get the patch and my son is also a bit sensitive and I'd love to have something for him as well.

You do have to get or have a prescription for them. You may be able to go to a doc in a box or if you know a physician who would be willing to write the script. If you have a private physician many times you can just call the office, tell them what you need them for and they will call the script into a pharmacy.

Interesting that the tablets are Ipecac, I searched all over last night looking for ingredients and didn't find that! lol I guess I should have searched harder. But I was more referring to the liquid Ipecac tho, so that's my qualifier. LOL

I used Hylands a time or two long ago, we also use Dramamine, not for rides but for car trips & plane trips. Both helped immensely.
