Rides Temporarily Closed

We're planning a trip for next August and so for the fun of it, I am tracking wait times this August so have an idea of wait time for each week next year. I mark the times 3x a day....at 10am, 1pm and 4pm CA time. I've noticed that at each check there are usual 1-3 rides that are 'temporarily closed'. Why so many shut downs? Does the heat affect things or is this just the norm?

Given how much stuff there is, I don't think 1-3 is that many. I'm sure it's pretty normal.

WOW! I thought I was a super planner, but you are taking it to a whole new level:worship:. It's totally typical for rides to shut down and reopen during the day. Especially IJ, Space and Screamin.

I was told by a CM once that rides will shut down for routine safety checks, some of which are planned and some of which are random.

Since you're so into the planning thing, I'd love to know what rides you see down the most.

Sometimes the app says information on the ride isn't available, that doesn't always mean that the ride is closed. In addition to safety checks and inspections, rides also frequently close because guests drop items or take too long to load or unload. Once a ride times out it has to cycle before it can come back online.

Not knowing what the rides are, keep in mind at DCA certain rides can be shut down if it's either two hot or too windy. In particular silly symphony swings and the zeppelin ride which the name of eludes me at this moment.

Rides go down all the time for a variety of reasons from mechanical to stupid guest tricks. Today we stared at Radiator Springs and it was down for a bit...then Big Thunder went down when heading that way...and Indy was down the same time...just gotta go with the flow!

Yeah...we just did a big trip in April (not Disney but similar cost) so we need to wait to do that kind of trip again. And actually since our WDW trip, I almost need something in the works to plan...lol. So I don't mind waiting a year for our trip as planning is half the fun. As for capturing wait times in August, I'm debating between two different weeks for next year so this way, it'll give me an idea of wait times during those two weeks (although with it being the 60th anniversary this year, next year may not be quite as busy?)

It's been many rides that I've marked as being closed but ones such as: Snow White, Alice, Big Thunder, Soarin, Indiana Jones, Matterrhorn, California Screamin

Good to know...makes sense

We usually make it to DL about two times a year and have found over the years that it just seems to have gotten busier and busier. I swear it has to do with the SoCal passes, but that's just my opinion.

Is this in the summer too? The first week we're looking at are blockout dates for the SoCal passes (not higher tier), but blockouts are lifted for the other week we're looking at.

Sorry, I was confusing by my statement. We have always found that summer is just general busy, but seems busier every year. All of our true and tried methods are not working anymore, such as going early, going back about lunchtime and returning at approximately 9 at night. But we have found that even what we used to call the "off times" of the year seem to be no longer. It's just always packed and that crowd indexes are just always, what we consider high, anymore. Hope I make sense.

Go the first week you're looking at. When the blockouts lift there will be a surge of guests itching to get back to the parks after being blocked all summer.
