I know what rides have height reqs with 40 inches being the general 'magical #'. What rides though will they not allow 'hand held infants' on but WILL allow a walking toddler (under 40 inches) with a parent? For instance- DUMBO- that's not a 40 inch ride....but can you take a hand held infant (non walker) on?
What rides would a non walker NOT be ok to ride? (other than the ones with height reqs which are obvious) Like what about POTC? or Maelstrom- do they allow hand held infants?

If it doesn't have a height requirement, you can go on it. Even with a "hand-held" infant.

All of the rides at Disney (barring the height-restricted ones) are family-friendly.

That is not to say that all of the rides without the height restriction are a good idea for some smaller people. Meaning, some things can be scary for the little guys (pirates, haunted mansion, Peter Pan).

ok...funny story...we had not ridden astro orbitor in many years but went on it with a 6 month old....i was scared out of my mind that my dh would drop him...wasnt prepared for it to be so fast and si high!!!!

Not a bash against anyone as the safety rules are what they are but I'm a bit surprised by this. I don't know that I'd take a hand held infant on dumbo personally. I figured those rides without height recs like IASW are ok for everyone but ones that go 'high' and such would have a req. that says no hand held infants. This is good to know though!

It's certainly a parental decision. If you don't feel safe, don't do it. Honestly, DS was safer when he was "hand held" than when we took him at 15mos. Where was he going to go? I could hold him (or DH) and he would sit and be held. At 15mos? He's trying to get out. Sure, dumbo is high, but a baby isn't going to get out unless I drop him, and I'm comfortable I won't. (as an aside, we didn't ride dumbo because of lines) I would rate it as highly unlikely to be dangerous given the length of time the ride has been open compared with the number of people who have ridden without incident, as little ones have always been allowed on. Again, though, it comes down to if you feel safe about it as a parent. Your judgment is all that matters for the non-height restricted rides.

My DD was 21 months old but I had a similar experience. It was just too fast and too uncomfortable (for me) with a young child. I personally do not think that ride should be for under 40 inches.

As the others have said, any ride without a height requirement is fine for any aged child. We took our DD when she was 7 months old and she went on every single non-height requirement ride with us. As someone else pointed out, it's actually easier at that age because they can't go anywhere! My other DD at 18 months was a little trickier as she was able to try to climb out of things (though luckily she didn't squirm too much). We're going back in November with an almost 3 month old and that'll be the easiest age yet because she'll just stay put in my wrap all day! That baby's going to ride the rides with her big sisters!
