My family and I will be traveling to Disney in March of this year. I have a 5 yr old and my youngest will be 8 months. What rides can the 8 month old go on and do I have to have a sling/carrier in order for 8 month old to ride? Also, I have not used a sling/carrier for either of my kids. Which ones are highly recommended and comfortable??? Please help!!!

When we took our seven month old in 2008, he rode POC, Small World, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan, Pooh, Snow White, Haunted Mansion (it was his favorite - seriously - he laughed the whole time he was on it!), TTT, the train and Buzz Lightyear, and the ride that sings Great Big Beautiful tomorrow, at MK.

At Epcot, he rode spaceship earth, nemo, the ride in kodak, the energy ride, norway ride and mexico.

At DHS, he rode teh movie ride, loved the car show, rode the ride with the earthquake. TSM wasn't open then but I'm sure he could ride it.

At AK, he rode the safari ride and loved teh shows.

He was always on my lap no sling needed.

You will have a blast - it was a great age to take them!

We are going in a few weeks and I was concered about this as well for my 10 week old but thinking it will be fine.

Also as far as wraps and slings it really is a personal prefference. Go to a store with a wide variety and test them out. I have a Cuddly Wrap and LOVE IT!! used it at DL when ds was 18mths.

I have to agree with this. I have 3 kids and tried them with all of them. I hated them all. Once they were out of my tummy the last thing I wanted to do was strap them back on. LOL!

Thanks RadioFanatic. I'm copying this list for my May trip with my baby boy!

I think pretty much any ride without a height restriction will be fine with an 8 mo old. My opinion on the sling is this- it is not a bad idea, but if you don't already have and use one, you'll be fine without it. If you do get one, use it for awhile before the trip. I think slings can be awesome, but there can be a learning curve with using them. I liked my plain old ring sling type sling with an older infant. It helped make carrying them more comfy. Sometimes they just want to be held, even at WDW.

I went when DD was 7 months in 2008. I took her on everything I went on, mostly in the Ergo carrier, but sometimes on my lap. The Ergo was a lifesaver for me -- she didn't want to be in the stroller, she wanted to be held. The Ergo let me do that without killing my arms or my back (she was/is a big girl -- she was close to 18 lbs at that age & wearing 12-18 mo clothes because she was so tall) I definitely recommend the Ergo. Baby faces you, with legs sort of around your body. It was super easy to just sit on rides that way. I never worried she would wiggle away from me or get scared. And, bonus, she'd just fall asleep sometimes :)

The 8 month old can ride on everything with you except rides with height restrictions. We never used a sling/wrap and didn't have any problems. I would warn you though about the energy ride at Epcot. When we went in Ocotober of 2008 it was extremely loud. My whole family is hearing impaired and have worn hearing aids since we were young kids and we all left the ride with a headache. My children, 3 and 10 months at the time, hated it since it was so loud. When we went back in October of 2009 we opted to skip that ride, not knowing if it would be unbearably loud again.

We did JC, POTC, HM, Dumbo, Monster's Inc LF, Gran Fiesta, Nemo all with DD (6mo). Any ride that doesn't have a height requirement is fair game for everyone. DD loved all of the water rides and Monster's Inc the best.

I forgot about Dumbo - my DS did that too; however, it comes with a cavaet. It scared my dh half to death because DS wasn't strapped down tightly because the belts weren't tight enough because of DS's size, and DS kept wanting to crawl around while they were in the air. He almost fell out! DH said never again until he was bigger. And he was big for his age- at 7 months he was in 18 months clothes.

Dumbo was TOTALLY the ride (and Triceretops Spin at AK) where I felt SOOOOOOOOOO much better having DD in the Ergo. I don't know if I could have survived the panic of having her next to me or even on my lap that high up. It was hard enough this year at 19 mo but she sat MUCH better than I had feared on rides this time.
