Rides down

I'm very frustrated. First day in the parks and BTMRR and Indy are both down indefinitely for today on top of the scheduled rehabs! They had over a year to work on BTMRR and it still has trouble. My DD is so disappointed. :-(

Strange. Where are you seeing this? The website does not have these listed as scheduled down today. Not that that means much.

Sometimes rides open late. Did you check the information booth?

Was turned away multiple times in the first hour with CM's at both rides stating they were down indefinitely TODAY. Not necessarily all day but long enough that they shut off the FP distribution for BTMRR and those in line for Indy were given a free FP. CM's at both rides made it sound like it wouldn't be a quick fix.

Just needed to vent.

I definitely understand your frustration. I would be upset also. This is standard CM language though. The information booth in the center of the park may be able to shed some light. They will have a sign saying "Temporarily closed" for attractions they expect to come back up.

They never run the FP machines for rides that are down. Check back later in the day. If you haven't already done so, get a wait time app for your phone. Mousewait and Disneyland Wait Times are pretty good at updating when rides are reopened.

I hope they come back up for you.

Yep, I have Mousewait and will keep checking.

We were there all last week and both Indy and BTMRR were down quite often. We were even evacuated of BTMRR once. But, even though the CM's acted like they had no clue when they would reopen, they reopened rather quickly. Just keep checking back, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

I was just reading on another Board about the same troubles. Big crowds for May that aren't helped by all the attractions being repaired - whether scheduled or not. Feeling your pain. It doesn't feel like a DL trip without one day where 2 or 3 E tickets are down for half the day.

Yeah. As I've said in other threads, I barely believe anything the CM's tell me. Half the time, I question myself as to why I even continue to ask.

If something goes wrong with a ride, chances are that the cast member you are talking to truly does have no idea. They are not the ones who can fix the problem or give clearance for re-opening. They probably don't know when it will re-open.

Thank you all for letting me vent. BTMRR did reopen and I did get to ride. Love the updated scene. :-)

rides can go down, but they're not closed. they always say indefinitely for time but your next question should be, "how long has it been down for?" if its been 15-20 min, it should be back up soon, and if it just went down, come back in 15-20 min. :)

True. I would go further and say a large majority of the time they genuinely do not know. Either they don't know or they tell me they don't know when they really do. In both cases, I question why I asked.

Of course, dealing with such complicated machinery that is designed to run all day long is going to have its issues. I recall one day a year or two ago that Indy (my faaaaavorite ride!) was down for quite some time, but I had a FP for it already. They didn't know when it was going to come back up and I don't blame them because obviously they're not stationed inside the ride fixing whatever is wrong. Those people on the front lines in their cute little costumes are just there to let people know the information they're allowed to give, which is usually not what you want to hear.

I go to Disneyland with the knowledge that these things happen and it's not the CM's fault for not knowing exactly how long it's going to take for a ride to come back up. The best thing to do is have a backup plan. Go on another ride or two, grab a snack, take in the sights. Disneyland has so much more to offer and chances are you'll get on the ride before the day is done!

Exactly.

Most of the time when rides break down, CM's don't have any idea when it will come back up because of the scenario you describe above. On rare occasions when the ride closure is not due to mechanical failures, they may know. In both cases, the message given is exactly the same. I don't assign blame or even get angry about it, because I understand why it's done, but I am acknowledging that it happens from time to time.

I go rather frequently so ride closures barely affect me. I can't even begin to imagine the frustration and disappointment of others that don't get to go very often. I feel bad for people like the OP. These things happen, but I'm not sure that lessens the disappointment much.

Oh, most definitely! I don't get to go that much either. Once a year if I'm lucky, which--I'll admit--is more than some other people can go. I completely understand the the disappointment and frustration that comes with paying A LOT of money for a certain, usually small, amount of time you're there, only to have rides break down. I'm glad they were able to get on the rides eventually, though, which is usually the case unless specified otherwise.

Whether it's poor maintenance, inept IT personnel, or just a matter of expected breakdowns, it happens whether we want it to or not.
