We are going to take our first family trip to Disney this January. At the time of the trip DD will be 2. I read an article recently that said for rides that DD can not ride, she is not allowed in queue. If that is correct then one parent stands in line while the other remains nearby (possibly riding another ride) until parent one completes the ride, at which point they are allowed in the FP line to ride alone as well? Yet, if we are to use a FP for a ride, then we may all enter and swap at the ride? Is my understanding of this correct? Any tips or suggestions on how this process works is also appreciated. Thanks!

No one who is to small will be allowed in the line, FP or not. If you choose to FP a ride for both of you, one would enter the line, then when they finish the other would enter the line. However if their fp time has expired they can't use the fp line. I personally would do one fp, get kid swap, use the kid swap fp for the second adult. That way two people use fp for the price of one and there is no time limit on rider swap pass.

thanks good to knew we are also going in nov. with my son who will be 22months and I was wondering about this too

This is a blessing in disguise. It's much easier for a parent to walk around with the baby/toddler, take them on the carousel, to a playground, etc, then waiting in line with one.

Here's an example that should help:
You get a FP for space mountain
DH gets a FP for Big Thunder Mountain

At your FP time, all 3 of you approach Space Mountain. Show the CM the baby, and they'll give you a babyswap pass.
You ride space mountain while DH and baby ride the people mover/eat ice cream/whatever.
Then sometime later (any time you want), DH goes back with the babyswap pass and gets in the FP line to ride Space Mtn while you and the baby do something else.

Reverse all of that for BTM.

One other thought... since baby is under 3, he doesn't need a fastpass. That means that if there's a ride he especially loves, he can actually go on twice if you guys split up. For example, you and DH both get a FP for Buzz Lightyear. DH and baby ride first with DH's fastpass. When they are done, you and baby ride with your fastpass. Of course, that means the 3 of you aren't together, which sucks, but for one or two of his most favorite rides at the end of the trip it might be a good option.

Hope this helps!
