Hi! Does it save any time at opening to ride the train to Frontierland to ride BTMRR or Splash Mountain? Or does the train take so long to fill up that I'd be at the back of the line?

It would be faster to walk there than take the train at opwning, unless you just want to enjoy the train.

BTMRR and Splash don't "fill up" anymore at opening.
Its been a long time since these were the "fair-haired new rides" at WDW.

CMs usually don't even open the FP machines for a couple of hours (or more) after opening.

Just walk (or ride) back and enjoy these attractions first-thing and you can ride them a number of times before there is any significant wait in the queues.

Now, if we're talking about "DUMBO" or "PETER PAN"... get back to Fantasyland as fast as you can. These fill up pretty fast (slow-loaders and lots of families).
;)

We usually use the train for the purpose of getting to another land later in the day, when we still want to do rides, but just use it as one of our "breaks".

As poster above said if you have plans on riding Dumbo and Peter Pan, head there FIRST!! We tried this for the first time last trip, what a world of difference.

We got Fast Passes for Peter Pan, headed to Dumbo, a 10 minute wait. Then did IASW next, then to Peter Pan. We didn't even need the FP's. When we got off, we handed them over to others.

I would agree the train is slower. If you want to get there fast, walk it. If you want to experience the train for the fun of it, why not!

Hint: Take the train to the back of the park Toon Town, start the park in the back and work your way to the front, less crowds in the back, everyone is in the front, by the time you get to the front, the crowds will be better than at opening. Give it a shot.... works for us

Steamboat - what do you ride first? I thought Toontown didn't open until after the park was open for about and hour.
