I am new to the dis and this is my first thread. The info here is so very helpful. We are planning to take dd 4yrs old and know that there will be a few rides she will not be able to go on. How does the ride swap work? who do we tell? does your spouse need to wait in a specific area? can anyone help? :Pinkbounc

This is a great feature!! You just approach the CM at the entrance and tell them that you want to do the child swap. The CM will give the waiting parent a "rider switch" ticket, which is basically just a fast pass. One of you will ride, and when you're finished, the waiting parent will go through the fast pass line and ride. We've never had to use it for a ride that wasn't a fast pass ride, but if it's not, the CM will instruct you where to wait.

:earsboy: WELCOME tothe DIS buzzgirls&dad :earsboy:

When my son ,Erich, was 2 yrs old ,I once had a CM on Tower of Terror tell me I could swap him for an 18 year old if I'd like! :p ;)

kbkids is right.Just ask the CM outside the ride and they'll tell you exactly what to do.

thanks for help:) Also, how do get the count down clock at the bottom of the post? I want to be able to see my countdown too:(

Space mountain is a ride that won't let you do a child swap. The CM will ask you to wait outside requiring the parents to double the time in line making it impossible to do without a FP.

It all depends on the load and unload areas. If they aren't in the same area (think BTMRR) it is impossible to do a switch.

We were given swap tickets at Space Mountain... I just asked the CM who was measuring kids at the entrance.

We've used the baby swap for:

Test Track
Space Mountain
Dinosaur
Rock n Roller Coaster
Tower of Terror

Good Luck!!! :wave2:

I respectfully disagree, we have used child swap many many times at Space Mountain as well as BTMR, as recently as November 2003.

Simply ask the CM at the entrance of any attraction, regardless of whether you are using fast pass or standby. They will give you a child swap pass simliar to a FP but without the time restrictions. The first parent and any others ride and return leaving the other parent to ride using the child swap pass. Even without a FP only the first riders will wait the standby line, the second party will bypass the line via the fast pass line. Older siblings may ride both times!

I highly suggest asking at every attraction as they do have different policies regarding the child swap. You should have the baby or young child with you or the CM may not issue the child swap pass.

Its a great feature, take full advantage!

My oldest loves the child swap feature, which we use because of her baby brother. She gets to ride all the rides twice in a row. The only exception was Mission: Space. She and I went first, and when getting off, she refused to do it again - shocking since she is a thrill ride junkie.

Sorry, but my experience on was different. We wanted to ride and asked about the parent swap and the CM said no. Explained about the unload etc. They did not offer us any type of pass. The return time on the FP was late in the evening so we couldn't do that.

We can do that at BTMRR because the load and unload were on the same platform.

Must depend on the CM but as I said. they wouldn't let us do that on Space Mountain.

I have a question...say we wanted to baby swap for Splash Mountain, I was given a swap pass and DH took the boys onto Splash. After DH and the boys get off, do I need to get on immediately, or could we do something else, like get a snack or go to the bathroom, then come back and use my swap pass? Is this allowed or even possible? (Not that I will NEED to do this, but just in case.) TIA

jcemom - Yes, we do it all the time. There's no time range on the rider switch tickets like there is on the fastpass.

That's strange that Space Mountain wouldn't allow it for MaryKatesMom. We've never had a problem. The CM at the entry just gave us the rider switch ticket. The waiting parent had to wait outside, but was able to go through the fastpass line when the other parent returned - again, time frame doesn't matter on the rider switch tickets.

I even gave my rider switch ticket to Mission: Space that my daughter didn't want to ride a second time, and my husband really didn't want to ride it anyway to a couple that we struck up a conversation with in the Test Track line.

Oh that's to bad, that CM was mistaken, probably just uninformed. Even before FP we used the child swap on Space Mountain. My youngest dd and I would wait in the gift shop and when dh and older dd were done we would return through the exit from the gift shop and swap that way on Space Mountain. The new child swap ticket option is IMHO better as you can take the younger child into a cool place, get a snack, use potty etc rather than waiting in line with the riders. FWIW even on BTMR you no longer wait on the exit ramp but get the fp type child swap ticket.

Just so you know for future reference and so others know as well!
