Ride Question

DH & I have having a debate on what rides we can take our DD (16 months) on. I though we could take her on all the Fantasyland one, Pirates, HM (maybe), and any of the basic slow rides. DH says only the Fantsyland ones. Does anyone have a list of the rides we can/should take her on at all the parks?

You can take dc on any ride that doesnt have a height requirement.

There is a height calculator on the DIS site so you can figure which rides she is too small for.
At her age, she may not be scared of much, as long as she is with mom and dad. It's usually later that kids begin to get scared, as they start to really think/imagine what might be going on in the dark, etc.

She'll be able to ride a lot. One reason I love Disney versus "thrill" type theme parks. One thing to consider though, is that at her age (I have a 16-month-old right now), you never know WHAT will scare her and what won't, and you can't explain much to ease her fear. So just go carefully...it's no fun to be committed to a ride and have her screaming and not be able to comfort her. I personally would skip anything with loud noise or complete dark. Other images may not scare her as much as those elements. Have fun!

That age is really great for riding everything her height. My now DD5 would ride everything her height would allow. She rode POTC and HM without any problems. I would judge her fear of darkness on the Fantasyland rides (starting with Small World, Pooh and Peter Pan moving to Snow White). If she does fine with those I think she would do great on POTC and HM.

Now my DD5 will not step into POTC despite seeing a video of the entire ride. It didn't help that when my husband and DD3 got off of it in December my DD3 told my DD5 "I didn't like it, it was scary." According to my husband my DD3 was find and enjoyed the entire ride. My DD5 will also not ride HM or Buzz. Yet she will ride Tower of Terror, Splash and BTMRR.

If you do take her on these rides, I would highly recommend getting video or stills of her on the ride, hopefully near a "scary" part. I think my DD5 would be riding them now if she saw a video of herself inside the ride. If might help you for future trips.

My DS has gone to WDW since he was 9 months, and has ridden every ride except the major thrill rides (like...the mountains, ToT, RnRc, Test Track...etc).
DS was not afraid of PoTC or the Haunted Mansion. We also did Maelstrom in Epcot with no problem. You will be surprised at how much you WILL be able to do with her. Have Fun!!

We went when my DD was 15 months, and took her on everything without a height requirement including Buzz Lightyear, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, the Energy ride in Epcot (sorry--can't remember the official name!), the safari ride in AK, and lots of shows.

She was easier than her 4 year old brother who got a little scared in Pooh and Peter Pan (which is a different story). You'll be able to do quite a bit, and she'll have fun.

We took our DD when she was just over 2. She rode almost everything that did not have a height requirement.

We did make sure we started on the ''dark rides'' with Small World and Peter Pan, so when we went to POTC (DH's favorite), she was not scared of the dark and really enjoyed it. I think if we had done POTC first she would not have done any of the other ones.

One thing she HATED was the 3-D shows.

My DD6 now likes all the rides. However, like previous posters have mentioned, you know your child best. Not all the FL rides appeal to all the kids. At 16 mo. some of the rides maybe too dark. My DD decided at about 2 that she didn't like Peter Pan. Also, first time she liked HM, next time-no! Sometimes you forget about aspects of rides that may frighten kids. My DD was almost 3 the first time we took her on The Great Movie Ride-my neice covered my DD ears during the ride-it was too noisy for her!

We are regular visitors to Disneyland and WDW and her tastes have changed, from trip to trip. The roller coaster in Toon Town was too jerky for her when she was younger-now she loves roller coasters. There have been many times that she has changed her mind, at the last minute, and we have exited the ride early. On our last trip, she decided that she liked Tower of Terror-however, we had walked off just before entering the elevator two times previously. Just be prepared to exit the ride and don't get mad or try to coerce them into going. I'm sure you wouldn't force your child onto a ride they didn't want to go on but once at DCA while waiting for Soarin' over Califorina, a young boy was throwing a tantrum-he didn't want to ride. His (stupid!) mother was telling him that the ride was like a train-a complete lie! He was so upset that when she picked him up to convince him, he thrashed around and kicked me in the back. She was still insisting that he ride! Myself, and a CM waiting to ride, let the CM on duty know, and he denied them boarding.

Remember just have fun! Besides, the 16 mo. won't remember the trip anyway. My DD doesn't remember her first trip when she was almost 3.

when my dd was 15 months old she went on all the rides that didnt have height restrictions. she was scared of pirates and haunted mansion, which surprised me because she had never been afraid of anything until then. i just nursed her and she was fine, but i wont be taking her in those this year at age 2 since she will freak out even more.

We'll start the dark rides with Small World but I really don't think there will be a problem. She is ok in the dark and gets mad if you leave her closet light on when it's bedtime!

I've seen many a parent drag, pull, push their crying scared child onto rides and I hate it! We swore to ourselves that we WOULD NOT do that no matter what! It's so horrible to see!!!

My son was about 3 when we took him about a year ago. He was nervous on pirates and the "bugs life" movie scared him enough that we had to leave.
