Ride Locker Issues

Recently while in US Orlando solo I had to use a locker to store a refillable mug while riding Gringott's. I used single rider and was back to the locker in maybe 20 minutes only to find that the machine thought I had already been back and tried to give me a new locker. Someone apparently had opened my locker and took the mug.

The team members working in the area were very helpful and luckily it was something that could easily be replaced. I was reminded of a week or two before at the Hulk coaster of another group having issues opening their locker as well, both rides using the ticket scanning system.

I'm now not sure whether I should trust using these lockers as the situation would have been a lot worse if my phone or wallet went missing. I tried to carry on the mug for the mummy later but was told I would have to use a locker so just opted not to ride.

How often have people had issues like this using ride lockers?

My biggest problem is getting my stuff in the locker at Gringotts. My Osprey barely fits.

Otherwise, I’ve had no problems.

Usually when I haven't been able to open my locker for whatever reason, they ask me to describe the contents before they open it for me. (This was mostly when they were still using finger scans.) I have not had someone randomly able to open my locker using the ticket scan. I have an AP and go several times a year and have not had this problem.

Right, they did open the locker for me and every locker in the area after asking what I had in there just to clarify. It was just gone.

Weird. I wonder if the door didn't shut right. However, I would think the system knew that the door had been closed and opened, since it tried to give you a new locker. Was the mug empty? Could have been leaking and opened by a different Team Member? This concerns me, because we put an expensive camera, money, credit cards, drivers license, prescription sunglasses, phone, etc., in those lockers. The thought of someone being able to take that stuff unnerves me. Losing the expensive camera would suck, and the other stuff would be a huge pain in the rump.

It was completely dry/empty actually, it was a horror nights mug I brought from home and I was planning on using it that night. This happened right after I got in the park.

That's the same concern I have which is why I'm curious how many people have had problems like this. If there is some kind of software issue with the lockers they need to address it.

So just to add I was watching the screen when the team member was opening up the lockers. It was color coded showing which lockers were taken/free and the locker I used was showing as empty. So I'm guessing either the system forgot it assigned that locker and someone else got it after, or there is some bug where whatever they are doing with the ticket IDs isn't unique enough.

I posted this on a private FB UO podcast group that I belong to. Someone else had this happen. He said that he was told by TMs that the locker sensors do not always pick up the mugs or popcorn buckets. The system thinks the lockers are empty and allows them to be re-rented. I did a search and found this article.

As we previously reported, these new lockers have sensors inside, which will keep note of any items inside the locker and prevent them from being re-rented with guest items still being stored."

So, I wonder how the sensor works, weight or size. The mugs and a popcorn bucket seem decent size but don't weigh much. I wonder what else would be a problem, ie a wallet, a cellphone.

Thanks that makes sense at least. Maybe they have some magnets to detect metal for smaller things like keys/phones and then a weight mechanism like you said. I'd be hesitant to leave just a wallet in there if that's the case though. It seems like it might make more sense to just assume the locker rented after the first scan/close and then if someone comes back start relying on the sensors solely.
