ride closures/refurbs for Oct.

October will be our first visit to Disneyland. I notice only the Mark Twain Riverboat is listed as being closed during the week we will be there. I have read that IASW will be closed for the holiday overlay about the time we are there but still no word on the dates. When will Disney make the announcement?

When I called recently a cast member said it will go down November 1st through the 12th not sure if that is really what is happening. I hope so though.

We were there the last week of October in 2013 and it was closed the whole time we were there. I *really* hope it won't be again this year! We're going the week before halloween.

The first thing you should know is that the Cast Members on the phone and via email at DLR often have no clue what is happening (especially not outside of a certain time window), and they can either give outdated info or incorrect info -- or no info at all. It happens time and time again. So the CM who told mom4scrapbooking that IASW would close down on 11/1 is almost certainly incorrect.

What usually happens is that IASW closes down maybe one or two weeks before October ends (or on one of the last 2 weekends in October), to receive its holiday overlay. It's a Small World Holiday will most likely open on 11/7, if history and tradition repeat this year, so they (Disney) need time (at least 2-1/2 weeks) to get it into full holiday mode -- and closing it on 11/1 just would not give them enough time.

The holidays don't officially begin at DLR until 11/13, but IASWH usually starts before the holidays officially start, which is why 11/7 is likely.

I agree with Sherry that it seems unlikely that IaSW will be open at Halloween. Historically, IaSW has been closed for about 17-day to install the holiday overlay. So if it re-open either on 11/7 or 11/13, it will still close prior to Halloween weekend.

I am used to WDW. Refurbs and closures are announced much earlier. I was just wondering if this is typical of Disneyland? And if anyone had any info on when they might announce the date it is closed for the overlay.

I think this is pretty typical for DLR. They don't tend to announce information until much closer to the actual date. I would guess that we should hear about the IaSW closure in the next few weeks (probably by the start of October).

This is typical of Disneyland. Many WDW vets find it frustrating.

Disney is not going to make a big announcement about rides being closed for overlays, but there should be something about closures, or about IASW being closed, quietly appearing on their website soon. They may even list it on their general info line. They kind of operate on a "6 weeks out" sort of schedule, or less, in which a lot of date-related info won't appear until 6 weeks ahead of time, if not 5 weeks or 4 weeks.

Again, though, as figment_jii and I mentioned earlier, IASW needs 2-1/2 weeks (at least) to transform into IASWH, so it always closes in October, around the times we indicated.

FYI --

MiceAge (which is no more of an official Disney source than DISboards is, but they must have gotten these dates from somewhere official) has reported that It's a Small World will be down for the holiday overlay installation:

October 20th-November 6th (which is as we predicted, basically).
