Riddle me this!

Tom went to town with $50 , but returned at night with $150.

He bought a hat at a clothing store and some apples at the market. Then he had his eyes tested.

He gets paid every Thursday by check. The banks are only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The eye doctor is closed on Saturday. The market stays closed on Thursday and Friday.

On what day did Tom go to town?

My mom is improving! She is now in the step down unit of the ICU. Still having a great difficulty swallowing, but they are beginning to think it is from all the tubes she has had. I will be going back down this weekend to see her. They still have the one visitor policy in place, but my dad is going to see what he can do to bend the rules for us.
