Riddle me that; cruise sales everywhere...

DH and I have had at least 50 cruises over the years, across many lines. Our first DCL cruise was in 2004, I surprised my husband with a Dream Cruise for his 60th birthday.

We have never had a bad cruise on any line, including a very Island intense one on a Greek cruise line in 1995! We had two lovely ports in one day, and we all were glad the land tour of Greece came before the cruise, the cruise was intense! Mom was 78 and with us on that cruise!

If I had a bad cruise, I do not think I would come here or to an Internet site to talk about it. After all these happy cruises, I also think it would take more than one bad experience to swear us off any line. Some Disney cruises are very expensive, and as grandparents, we have paid lots to have our family join us. Strangely enough, to me at least, after 4 cruises, they are OK to not cruise. Saving for college now!

But your "DCL has to be the best because they don't have sales" post doesn't do anything but kick a person who is already down. I don't see the value in that.

By, all means, post what you want. I'm not telling you that you can't, just that I don't see why people feel the need to rah rah Disney when someone says they are done.

What's the point of saying "I still love Disney" to someone who is mad, sad, etc.? This is a Disney thread, isn't it a given that you like the cruise line, UNLESS, you tell us you don't?

Can't the same be said about someone coming on here and saying how much Disney made them mad to a bunch of people who love Disney? :rolleyes1

Bottom line, everyone is entitled to their opinions, good or bad. No one should be scolded for venting their opinion, one way or another. :duck:

There's posting opinions and then there's posting inflammatory comments. I felt the original post was the later.

It is sometimes hard to really capture the tone of a message...

I have to admit that I felt that OP's original post was slightly denigrating of other cruise lines because their prices were much lower, suggesting that their were close to bankruptcy... (when their stocks have actually been going up!)

I just wish we could have conversations about money and value without the conversations turning to vinegar because people get emotional about it.

No, I don't see it as the same. People who post that they are mad are looking for somewhere to vent and to possibly find like minds.

The unique thing here is that everyone loves Disney......until they don't. And it happens, regularly.

Not everyone on here loves Disney, some people are just looking for information because they are taking a Disney cruise.

That's how I read it too. I noticed that the OP posted a sarcastic "yawn" in one of the threads where folks were discussing DCL's rising prices. I figured this thread was started because he didn't get a reaction to his sarcastic post on the other thread.

Bottom line is this is a discussion board, no one is forcing anyone to read any thread. It's simple, if a thread bothers you, scroll on by. There are plenty of topics that don't interest me and I don't bother to read them, period.

Nothing written on this board would ever bother me. I kind of know what the intent of the thread was based on previous posts. I just thought I'd bring it up.

I guess because it's a Disney board some people feel that we should all be rooting for the same team so to speak. People do take it personal. I've never been a big fan of a sports team or loyal to a certain product so that kind of thinking is pretty much lost on me.

I just wish we could have conversations about money and value without the conversations turning to vinegar because people get emotional about it.

The problem is value is impossible to judge. We first cruised DCL in 2008 back when they had an extra OBC for Platinum, and other perks we had hoped to see. We also in our opinion saw better service overall back then. Fast forward to now, our last few cruises, at a lower rate than current, we started to question the value we were getting.

Someone that started with DCL now, I could see falling in love with the service, just like we did, and be confused as to why anyone of us would say it isn't as good anymore.

It is just isn't an apples to apples discussion and tempers will flair at times. I have defended DCL at times too over price, bad service etc. I do always attempt to take other opinions in my mind and have a few good discussions on here usually agreeing to disagree;)

Like others have said if you don't want to read about price hike woes, don't open the thread.

Maybe not regarding "emotional value" (and Batman knows how the Mouse can make people emotional)... but I read a lot of articles about different items' value when it comes to vacations. Even Tripadvisor has a "best value" button that would change the order of the "best hotels in X town".

I try to strip emotions from my reviews when I write them. So while my Disney Wonder review may have sounded "cold" or severe it was a super emotional cruise... FIL and MIL travelling for the first time in 40 years being emotional, then being emotional about the other being emotional, me being emotional because they were emotional... Let's just say we cried lots of happy tears but I did not let that influence my review. ;)

I love this quote ..."lighten up Francis" :duck:

I enjoy reading some fire and brimstone between posters and wonder who is trolling. I know I like to push buttons. :)

Really the only thing I'd like to see is talking about the hikes without judgement. Sadly these threads usually just serve to make people either feel bad about or staunchly defend their spending habits.

Its fun when the participants like that sort of thing, but many people don't... as with the last few threads I feel the need to remind everyone to keep it light and impersonal... TIA!

I think we are all guilty of pushing buttons at times. I will throw stuff out there to get a conversation going...so to speak. There are posters on the board that I disagree with on just about everything...but they've also been very helpful to me on travel questions. When a someone starts a thread just to get a certain reaction and people fall for it. It's like come on don't take the bait.

Well said!

If you read what the OP (me) said in his post... "Riddle me That..." The meaning of my statement is this is puzzling.

Riddle me that is an idiom that means: Go ahead and try to explain that to me. It trades upon the secondary meaning of riddle which is to solve or explain to someone. So essentially when someone says "Riddle me that (or this)" they are saying: I find the statement (Post) I just made to be puzzling to the point where I consider it to be a riddle. Go ahead and try to explain it to me." When someone says that, they typically don't expect an answer to be easily forthcoming."

This was not meant to be a degrading post, it was meant to provide insight into what I find puzzling. The responses turned it into a negative post.

Well did your riddle get answered. I found the part where you said other cruise are giving their product away to be a little degrading. I think the people that pay thousands to cruise those other lines wouldn't agree with you on that. Try asking that question at cruise critic on the Royal or Carnival board. I'm sure you'll get lots of nice responses.
