I bought a pretty basket that was spray painted gold. It's wicker with a handle over the top. Like this

Only painted gold and a little fancier.

I filled it with cinnamon scented pinecones (mmmmm....).

But it looks "blah". I have a bunch of holiday wire ribbon, and I'm thinking that adding that would perk it up and really work nicely. But what should I do with the ribbon? I thought of a big bow on one, side, but I dont know how to make those pretty bows. I'm "crafty challenged" LOL!

If really want a bow and can't make one, most craft stores sell premade bows this time of year.

Or, you could attach the ribbon around the basket right near the top. I'm not sure how else to explain it...do you understand what I mean? lol!

Anne you don't have to make them - you can go to any place that sells craft stuff or christmas decorations and buy them premade and they usually already have craft wire attached to them. You could wire one to each side of the handle.

Or they do sell easy bowmaking kits.

I know, hindsight is a wonderful thing LOL! I really don't want to go back to Michael's, it's a good 40 mile r/t drive. I already have the ribbon. Maybe I can find "Bow Making for Dummies" on the Internet. LOL! I'm not entirely capitated to a bow though, I'm happy to hear other ideas...

TIA!

Can you tie a bow? LOL Like a shoelace type bow? You can tie the bow at the bottom end of one side of the handle then wrap the ribbon around the handle then tie it off in another bow on the other end.

Often the nicest looking bows are faked! :earboy2:

Bunch up some ribbon, maybe wrapping it loosely around the basket (this helps you size the ribbon to the container) several times, take the ribbon off the basket in a bunch, wrap wire around the middle and fluff up the looped ends. I find 3 loops per side to be a nice amount.
If you're using wired ribbon you've got it made as it will form and shape nicely into a decent looking bow.
Just fuss with it a bit and it'll look wonderful!

Good luck and do remember, the best stuff is often fake! :earboy2:

Another easy thing to do is just toss some fake greenery and or poinsettas in the basket. You could also toss some ornaments into it.

I used a basket similar to that to hold rolls when we have a party and I always attach the ribbon to the inside of the start of the handle and twist around the handle about 3/4 of the way over and make a bow (like tying a shoelace). I then attach it the same way to the other side and twist up to meet the bow. I make another bow (again like a shoelace) around the existing bow (so there are 4 loops now). I then make a 5th loop at the top of the bow (there will be a space and you can pull the extra ribbon right through) and it ends up looking like one of the premade wreath bows.

I get a bunch of compliments on it every time we have it out. I hope I explained it ok and it's much easier then it sounds. I will try to find it and post a picture.

P.S. I actually found much prettier bows at Target then I did at Michaels.

Thanks for everyone's help. I ended up using one of the links and made a bow, it came out OK, thank God for wire ribbon LOL!

I'll try to take a photo and post it later tonight. It was definitely what the basket needed.
