Can I do my iron-ons on a ribbed tank top? You know like the mens undershirt type? I found a cute lime green one that I want to use....but I am in such a time crunch now to get these finished, I wanted to check in with the experts before I tried it!

TIA

I would be afraid that it wouldn't iron on smooth. Also I would be afraid that when the ribbing stretched it would crack the design. I probably would not try it. Maybe someone will respond who has already ironed something on ribbing.

My dd wears a lot of ribbed tanks, but I've been too afraid to try it. Maybe I'll try a piece of scrap on an older tank.

Great idea, I didn't think to do a test first!

Anyone else try it successfully or not???

Tried it on a ribbed tank-----Don't recommend it. It looked great UNTIL she put it on!!!! It cracked at EVERY rib!!!!!

That's what I was afraid of.

I was afraid of that too!
Thank you for posting that, saved me a 'do-over', I'm sure!! :goodvibes

I'm sorry to hear that but glad to see this thread. I figured it would have cracked but I LOVE my ribbed tanks. I won't wear a t-shirt with sleeves at Disney so I need to find some t-shirt material tanks to wear with my iron-on designs....

I've ironed onto Old Navy t-shirts and tanks. The tanks are definately ribbed, and their t-shirts are ribbed tightly together. I like the look on the shirts, it's obvously not as smooth as printing on a regular Hanes shirt, but I still like it.
For the tanks, I make sure I get a color that will "blend" with the design more to give the shirt an aged look, almost like it's been washed a million times. I have a pale yellow tank with a yellow design on it, and I think it looks good. It's still cracked, but it blends nicely together. There are tanks out there that aren't ribbed, but most of them are online orders (which I hate buying shirts online when they are 100% cotton and I don't know how they'll shrink or even look sometimes.)
Speaking of which, I better get going on finding tanks for September. I had a heck of a time finding shorts last week; they are already clearanced!
If you want a clean design, I'd definately tell you to try to find something that's not ribbed
