We originally had planned on visiting Myrtle Beach in late August. But with the recent crime wave looking for some where else.

We would prefer to be ocean front and have a price range around $200. We would like to stay in an area that is family friendly. Since we are driving we are open to accommodations along the eastern sea board from Rhode Island to North Carolina.

We picked late August as I believe school has started and it appears pricing drops.

I'm not sure how many people you have going, but check out the ocean front condos at WindJammer in Ocean Isle. It's a beautiful area that's pretty affordable. I was just checking pricing on a few of the condos for late August and for a 2-3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo, they run approx. 1100-1500 for a week. We just stayed in one of these last month and I absolutely loved it.. private balconies, private walkway across the dunes, and almost a private beach just for the people staying in this grouping of condos. It's a quiet area, but plenty to do within a 15-minute or so drive. Here's a link to one of them, just to give you an idea on views...
