I would think they would have to be removeable braclets. We don't always use our tickets on consecutive days and like to dress up for a nice dinner and I would not want some dorky RFID tag on my wrist that couldn't be removed.

They will certainly be removable bracelets. The won't expect people to wear one for an entire trip that could be days or weeks long.

Everyone knows that the RFID tags will be in the form of a nose ring. Our H.E.B. bagger last week told us so, and she's obviously an expert since she was wearing a nose ring AND Disney earrings. Six of 'em.

If you don't already have the necessary piercing, you can have a costumed professional do it. Your choices are MK will be Cruella de Ville, Captain Hook, Maleficent. No word yet on who will be available in the other parks.

Yes you can remove them. They are not like a hospital band that you have to cut off.

I guess some people think that it they are "permanent" and then you wouldn't have to do the finger scan. Well based on the trial at Epoct, the finger scans are not going away. Sorry Germophobics.

Any links to information on this? What would the RFID bracelets be used for? (Park entry, room charges, FP distribution, etc.??)

I can see how they might speed up entry through the gates and maybe FP distribution.

Here's a link from DizFanatic about the current speculations for the uses of the wristbands. Obviously everything right now is rumor and speculation, but it's fun to look at.

There's talk of using it as your hotel room key, using it to pay, using it so that a character like Cinderella already knows the name of your daughter by the time she gets up to meet her, using it so that various characters can deliver presents to you that you've pre-ordered, using them for more "adventures" like the Kim Possible adventure. It's an interesting concept for sure.

And before someone quotes Big Brother.

They could do this now with the current KTTW cards. It just makes it a little easier to use a proximity reader vs a mag strip reader. The RFID chip will probably hold the same info the mag stripe on your card does today.

Well, I was going to send that article to my bosses at work since we specialize in RFID technology but it's written like my 13 year old granddaughter would have authored it.

I'll wait for something a bit more official.

HAHAHA:rotfl:

There are many things they COULD be used for. How much they will be used for is unknown. I'm not sure Disney has acknowledged that they will be used at all yet, but it is pretty much expected that they will be used as part of xPASS (the nextgen ride reservation system), and likely replace KTTW cards for room access/room charge/tickets.

An RFID system was tested at Epcot for a short time by sticking on an RFID chip to a regular park ticket/KTTW card.

There are, of course, security concerns about a contactless system and the ability to purchase items, although it would inherently be safer than similar issues with RFID chips in credit cards as use would be limited to WDW and only during your stay. Additional measures could improve that security though.

Just off the top of my head, other things it could potentially do:

- Electronic Fastpass acquisition/usage (if Fastpass isn't 100% replaced by xPASS)
- Photopass card replacement
- ADR confirmations
- Personalized interactive queue features
- Personalized meet and greet information
- Standby queue time tracking (replacing the red cards - that's just an idea of mine, no idea if Disney's thought of that one ;) )

So I'm reading all the cool features this thing will have and all I can think is how much I hate wearing bracelets. :rotfl: I will probably shove it in my purse just like my KTTW card.

:rotfl: I can't imagine wearing them all day :headache: Just thinking about it makes my wrist itchy

Not sure why these are being seen as anything different than wearing a watch. Most people do and ignore those all day. From the pictures I've seen they prototypes are like that. Put em on and forget em. If you wear a watch you can wear one of these.

Since now almost everyone uses their cell phones for time keeping most people don't wear watches anymore. I haven't in years.

Even then many would not want even a watch on in the heat of the summer.
