Rewards Programs, Trial Offers, and Credit Cards.... Any Other Options?

We found out today that our credit card had an unauthorized charge on it. We called the CC company and they closed the account and are investigating.... Now, that this has happened, I am leary(sp?) of doing trial offers and such online. We love the rewards programs and don't want to lose the benefits of them, but we really don't want to use our credit cards anymore. Are there any other options we can use? Do the prepaid Mastercards/ Visas work for offers? What about shopping? Thanks.....

Prepaid visa's/mc's seem to work. Some credit cards let you generate a one-time use #, which cuts down on fraud (I've successfully used Discover's, but MBNA and some paypal accounts have this feature.

I think if you get a prepaid MC/Visa like a webcertificate it would work because it would have your name on the "card" and it would have a number, exp date, and verification number. i'm not sure about the ones at walgreens and such.

UGHHHH Im in the same boat right now! I also had to close my account due to unautherized charges. I need to figure out a way to keep earning those Disney Funds!!!

I friend of mine is using a visa gc from walgreens and not having a bit of trouble. Just dont use Treasure Cities...several people including myself are having trouble getting credits this month.

Yeah I gave up on that darn site! I did quite a few offers and maybe 2-3 cleared. I say stick to the two reliable ones, SR and QR. And i Havent joined CR but I hear its pretty good too.

Yep! I'm in that same boat too. We just had to have an account shut down. My DH suggested getting a credit card just for doing rewards and calling and having a really low limit put on it....like $100.

It makes me wonder too. I have Ad Aware to zap spyware and I run it daily, sometimes a couple of times per day. Does anyone know if there is a program out there that is better than Ad Aware at zapping spyware?

Thanks everyone for your tips and info.... I'm sorry this is happening to so many of us. I hope everyone gets their situations straightened out.

I definitely want to keep up with these rewards programs because they are great, but I don't think I want to use credit cards anymore.

Where can I get Webcertificates and how do they work?

I recently received a Master Card from Obopay when they were having their $25 free sign-up deal. I have used it for a few days for all my offers and it is working great. It is registered under your name/address just like a regular credit card. Obopay is a lot like Paypal, but you can do a lot through your cell phone. You can link it to your bank account (like Paypal) and put as much money as you want on your Obopay Mastercard.

It seems to be working really well for these trial offers. I had $25 on mine and it has been enough to do the offers that I want.

The site is obopay.com and you will need a cell phone (has to be a cell phone) to sign up for an account. There is an automated system that will call the phone to verify it is a real number.

So everything on obopay HAS to be done on your cell phone? Like transferring money to the card from your bank account, etc.? You can't do it from their website? I don't even know how to text message I am so behind the times! Also, I have a tracfone. Can you text message on one of those? I'll have to drag out my manual.

I got the obopay and used it for a couple small things and it worked. Didn't work for the lotto one, but am being careful since my CC number got stolen. But I don't want to give up on getting the rewards. So if the prepaid CC works, I'll do it. If the prepaid CC doesn't, it's an offer that I just won't do.

But since we all seem to be having the same problem, would it maybe help to compare what offers we were doing when our CC was stolen?

I did the obopay as well but used it to buy a disney gift card . My parents gave me a credit card gift card for christmas that still has a few dollars on it. I'm going to try using that for offers and if it works I'll add more money to it. I haven't had any problems with my CC numbers being stolen but it seems like everyone else has and since I do the credit card offers all the time I wanted to be safe!
