I guess my question is how is this make the system better. People will still favor Sun to Thurs night because of lower points. Also, look at the BWV points. Let's assume you previously went Sun through Thurs night, Monday through Friday night, Tuesday through Saturday night (in other words any five consecutive night combination that included or did not include weekends), the number of points needed in 2010 for a studio, 1BR or 2BR for that trip in every season is now higher. The same happens for anyone who did six consecutive nights. In other words, those who took the very common 5 or 6 night trip are worse off and none has any new incentive to do weekend nights.
I agree that there is still incentive to avoid weekend nights. But there is bound to be some change in overall demand patterns. Some will shorten their trips, some will change seasons and some will downsize their accommodations. We'll have to wait and see what effect (if any) that has on availability.

Even if the same number of Friday and Saturday nights go unused going forward as did before the reallocation, at least there is a smaller number of points involved. So maybe there will be less pressure on DVC to get all of those nights rented out for cash. Maybe the smaller number of points makes it less onerous to have to discount those nights to get them rented.

Those who value the opportunity to stay at non-DVC resorts may see a decrease in the points per night required, or at least the rate of increase will be slower. Maybe our breakage income will increase.

And there are members who will use less points for their usual trips. I don't blame them for not posting as much as those who are negatively impacted.

P.S. At the BWV, if your 5 or 6 day trip includes both Friday and Saturday, it will be less in 2010 than in 2009 for at least the 1 bedrooms (SV & PV) in Adventure season. I didn't check others.
