We just returned from a wonderful week at WDW! We LOVE food so here are our reviews!

Cast includes:
Me, 27, 5th time to WDW since honeymoon in 2000
DH, 29, 5th time to WDW since honeymoon in 2000
DS, 2 ½, 1st trip to WDW
My mom, 50ish, hasn’t been to WDW since I was in the 5th grade, also a diabetic

All three adults were on the dining plan

Day 1, Dec 16th.
Arrival Dinner: Whispering Canyon Café, WL
We had a great dinner here after checking in to the WL. DH and I had dinner here in 2001 and enjoyed it so we decided we should try it again since we were staying at the WL. We had to wait a while even with our ADR, but DS was entertained by the Lincoln log table even though he really didn’t know how they worked. When our server first came to our table, I told him that we were on the dining plan. He explained what that included. I asked what about if you order the skillet, and he said something to the effect that if we ordered an appetizer and then the skillet and he didn’t know we were on the dining plan at first, there was nothing he could do. *wink, wink* So, after 11 hours in the car, we were starved so we ordered “real” appetizers. We were first given cornbread, which was yummy. For an appetizer, I had the nachos after our server suggested them. They were GREAT! Very yummy, but the portion is huge and I had to force myself to stop eating them! DH got the wings. Their flavor was different and very good and it was also a large portion. My mom got the salad and said it was very good. We all got the all-you-can-eat skillet, which was great. DH really enjoyed the ribs. My favorite was the pulled pork. DS and my mom really enjoyed the chicken. My mom loved the potatoes. I tried a little of everything, except the chicken, and all of it was good. DH asked for more ribs, which they brought, but they also brought more of all of the meat! We felt so bad because we had so much food left over. So if you order more of something, make sure your server knows exactly what you want more of so there’s not so much wasted. We skipped dessert since we were all so full from the meal.

Day 2, Dec 17
Breakfast: Crystal Palace, MK
This was our first time at Crystal Palace. We had an 8:00 PS. We were able to take the boat from the WL to the Contemporary and then we walked to the MK. We were seated almost immediately. The food was very good…standard breakfast buffet. I tried the breakfast lasagna, but it was WAY too sweet for me. I’m glad I tried it after reading about it, but I won’t be trying it again. Just too sweet. There were some cheesy hash browns that I LOVED. I could have eaten just those hash browns! Yum! DH raved about the apple sausage so much that I had to try it and it was very good. This was also DS’s first character experience! His first character was Eeyore. He was excited to see the characters, but when Eeyore started coming towards us, DS started to get scared. Eeyore kept his distance and even began to “cry.” I went up to Eeyore to show DS that he was nice, then Eeyore went up to DS and DS just loved it. That was the beginning of waiting in line to see every character DS set his eyes on! The characters were great with DS and all spent time with DS, signing his autograph book and taking pictures. A couple of them made there way back to our table before we were finished, but they just told DS hi and moved along, which was fine.

Lunch: Columbia Harbor House, MK
DH and I ate here in 2003 when we did the KTTK tour. DH really enjoyed the tuna sandwich back then. Also, at that time, in March 2003, the upstairs area was practically empty, so we thought we’d return here for a quieter atmosphere. Boy, were we wrong! The place was packed and VERY slow to get the food out. By the time we got our drinks, they had been sitting so long that almost all of the ice was melted. We ended up taking our tray outside and ate at some tables near where you used to get on the riverboat (which is still in rehab). I think a big problem with the seating was that people were holding tables while someone else in their party ordered the food. Well, the food line took SO long that a family could have received their food, eaten, and then left before we even made it through the line. I think it would have been a lot better if everyone had just waited to find a table after they had their food. The flow was messed up with so many people holding tables and the food line being so slow. The food was fine. I split the captain’s plate (two chicken tenders, two pieces of fried fish, French fries) with DS. My mom and DH got the tuna sandwich, which they both really enjoyed. For dessert, we all had the apple pie, which was pretty good. I think I’d probably try somewhere else next time…it was just too crowded and too slow for my tastes, especially since the only thing on the menu I would eat was the chicken and fish.

Dinner, Kona Café, Poly

After much debate, I decided on trying Kona for the first time since Ohana changed the menu and got rid of some of my favorites. Plus, I don’t recall ever reading a bad review about Kona. Again, even with our ADR, we had to wait about 10 minutes or so after our ADR time. For an appetizer, I got the Kona Chowder. I love soup but rarely order it since DH and I usually split appetizers when we eat out at home and he’s not a big soup fan. This chowder was VERY good! I loved it. My mom had the crab cakes and said that they were good. I was enjoying my soup so much and the crab cake portion was small so I didn’t try any of it. DH had the sticky wings, which were good, but nothing too unique. For an entrée, I had the beef teriyaki which was delicious. I had to force myself to stop eating it so that I would have room for dessert! DH had the macadamia mahi mahi which he said was very good, also. DH also had to make himself stop eating in order to have room for dessert. My mom had the pan Asia pasta with shrimp. The portion was huge and mom enjoyed it a lot. DS had a hot dog, which he picked at. For dessert, I had the cake with the chocolate sauce in the middle…don’t remember the exact name. IT WAS TO DIE FOR! Very good, but very rich! I was able to get ice cream with it to balance out the sweetness. Our server said that normally with the dining plan you can’t get ice cream added, but my dessert was so rich that they let you get it. DH had the cheesecake, which he enjoyed. Mom had the apple brown betty, which she was told was sugar free. She said it was very good. I think we all enjoyed Kona a lot and would definitely return. There are lots of yummy-sounding entrees and desserts I would like to try in the future.

Thanks for the reviews.

Sorry to hear that CHH was so crowded and hectic - it's our favorite CS restaurant at MK and (so far) we've always been able to find a quiet seat upstairs. Sounds like that "secret" is out now though. :sad1:

Glad you enjoyed Kona Cafe. We love the food there.

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

Mmmmm, you just reminded me of that fabulous chocolate cake dessert at the Kona Cafe (I had one last December). I'm going to be dreaming of cake for the rest of the morning/afternoon/night.. mmmmmmmmmmm

We really enjoyed our meal at Kona, too, and thought the only thing lacking was the decor.
I do so love to wickedly add the photos of the Kileau Torte at Kona (hope the OP doesn't mind)- one of my faves from our trip. Sweet dreams!

Kona is up there with CG as my absolute favorite WDW restaurants!! We ate there on Christmas Eve. My 13 yo had the sticky wings, and raved about them. Dh had the Pan Asian Pasta but with Chicken. He also enjoyed this.

We didn't eat ate CHH last week, but we have during every other trip this past year. (Christmas was our 5th trip this year.) Sorry you experienced such crowds. We try to eat there at off times to avoid this. The CS restaurants can REALLy be busy during peak times.

We had our Christmas dinner at WCC this year. As always, our experience and the food (different for Christmas day) was excellent. This is a place we visit for at least one meal every trip!!

I can't wait to read the rest of your meal reports!

Great reviews, the server at Whispering Canyon sounded so nice! :)
