We were at Walt Disney World from 8/14 through 8/17. The first night of our grand gathering we had reservations at Ohana. I have to say I was very nervous about it because I have read so many differing reviews of it here on the boards. I could not have been more pleased! :) We were a family of 8 and everyone loved it. The food was all great and plentiful. The chicken wings were out of this world! Bread pudding was excellent. Lapu lapus delicious! We even had some pixie dust and got what I think was the best seat in the house. It was just an overall fabulous time. It really set the tone for our whole trip which was great. We all agreed we want to eat there again next trip.

We also ate at Chef Mickeys for breakfast and had dinner at Chef de France and all of our meals were very good. Good service, good food. We were on the dining plan and I think that we all found it to be a good value.

My father has celiac and they couldn't have been more accomodating. At every sit down meal they made a special dish for him and he said everything was delicious. He never had any trouble at any counter service places either.

Please feel free to ask any specific questions. I guess if I could offer any advice it would be to keep an open mind when making your reservations, reading the reviews, and even when you are there at the restaurant eating. I almost changed my reservation at Ohana's because of the reviews I was reading and we would have missed a wonderful meal and a wonderful experience. Try not to stress about the decisions you have made and just enjoy yourselves! After all, no matter where you end up eating, you are at Walt Disney World with the people you love and that is the most important thing.

Thank you for posting your review. I fully agree with you about being open minded. Every place will have its critics, but it is so subjective that unless there is a glaringly obvious problem or something that would make a place a bad choice specifically for your party you do have to give it a go.

What were your favorite CS places? I am especially keen to hear which ones were most accommodating for a gluten free diet.

The Food Court at the POR was phenomenal last year at being accomodating. The pasta area, for example, made 3 special dishes for us (low-carb for me no veggies for picky ds9, and nothing touching anything else for ds7 with autism) and offered to create something new for us the next day. We loved it there!

Thank you. :goodvibesat is great news for me. We are staying at POFQ next month (I love saying that: NEXT MONTH!:woohoo: It is my DD who is GF but nice to know we can walk across to POR if we feel like changing things up a bit. She loves pasta.

Oh thank you for posting this about gluten free and Ohana! I've been nervous about our upcoming trip because it will be my 1st time there as gluten free.

Ohana is one of our absolutely favorite restaurants and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to eat anything good, especially the bread pudding.:sad1: Can I ask you what your father had for dessert and what he thought of the meal overall? Any other restaurants that stood out with their offerings for a gluten free meal?

Thanks again for posting!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi,

In regards to Ohana the main dish they prepared for my father was grilled meats specially cooked and vegetables and rice - he loved everything. For dessert they brought him a really nice looking chocolate cake - was on a Kona plate - not sure if they serve it there or not? He said the cake was very good as well.

Counter service was no problem - as a matter of fact he was very happy that he could eat the fries because they are all cooked seperately I guess. We ate at Cosmic Rays in the Magic Kingdom and he had chicken and I believe he had the ribs too. I think he even got a gluten free brownie there.

By the way when we ate at Chef Mickey's they made my father gluten free mickey waffles! :)

If I recall correctly they oven bake the fries at Cosmic Rays and some of the other CS like Columbia Harbor House to prevent cross contamination from the fryers.

Oh the GF brownies are awesome. I am not GF, it is my daughter but she loves them and I thought they were amazing too. In fact last year I made her some with my recipe that is always a hit and she said, with all the tact of a 7 year old: "I don't mean to hurt your feelings Mom, but Disney's ones are nicer!" :rotfl2: I have to admit, I think she is right.

By the way when we ate at Chef Mickey's they made my father gluten free mickey waffles! :)

I love that they do this. It just keeps the GF treats in line with the Disney theming available to all the other guests. :thumbsup2

Perfect! So it was cake and not a GF brownie then. Thanks so much!:goodvibes

Did you do any dinner shows? My mom is celiac, and I'm looking at Hoop de doo, Mickeys BBQ or Aloha Luau.

We're just back from WDW, and I had some great GF meals along the way. At the Hoop-de-Doo, they brought out some grilled chicken breasts instead of the fried chicken. Dessert was a GF brownie.

At the Spirit of Aloha, I got a plate of rice and veggies along with some lovely grilled chicken breasts and ribs without the sauce (but they were nicely seasoned). I had a fruit plate for dessert.

Ohana was another great meal. The chef brought out a bowl of chicken wings that were EXCELLENT and then a separate plate of rice and veggies, along with skewers of chicken, beef and pork. I only had a few bites of dessert (gluten free brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce) because I was so stuffed. It was really good!

We did the Hoop Dee Doo Review in August, I am GF and a veggie, and DD is GF. They made me a really yummy Portobello mushroom and veggies, and the mashed potatoes they serve are GF. They brought out GF rolls too. The GF dessert was strawberries and cream (no shortcake). For DD, they brought out GF grilled chicken. I believe she had ribs too, mashed potatoes and rolls.

Overall the GF food was good, safe but most of all, it was a really fun show!
