We just got back last night from our first family trip to WDW. We had an amazing time. I wanted to share my thoughts on some of the restaurants that we visited. Maybe this will help some other first time planners. There was so much info that it was tough to process it all when I was planning, but I wish I would of taken more advice from fellow DISers.

1900 Park Fare - Dinner

This was our first meal of the trip. It wasn't exactly what we expected. It was very loud and very rushed. The tables were so close together that it made it hard to get up or move at all. Characters all come to the table, which was nice but the visits were very brief. That evening they had Coq au Vin, roast beef and pork tenderloin along with mashed potatoes, rolls, salads and soup. The kid's food looked awful (pizza, mac and cheese, chicken legs and corn). I had the coq au vin and it was pretty good. Rest of the food was just ok. I didn't care for the dessert options. They only had bread pudding and brownies with assorted toppings (m&ms and gummi bears). After looking at menus of this place online, I was a little disappointed with what the actual selections were once we got there.

Bottom Line: It was just ok. An easy way to see Cinderella and the rest of the characters. We probably wouldn't go back to this one. I kind of wish we would of spent the extra and did the dinner in the castle. This one lacks in anything magical.

Raglan Road - Dinner

The second night we had dinner at Raglan Road at Downtown Disney. Yum! It was so good. One of the best meals that we had during our trip. They had a band and Irish dancers for entertainment. Fries are awesome and desserts were excellent! Great service, too!

Bottom Line: Excellent. Will be a must do on future trips.

Chef Mickey's - Breakfast

This is where I wish I would of listened to other DISers as they were right. Thought it was a must-do, but I was wrong. Awful, awful, awful! The buffet food was terrible. The free buffet we had at our hotel on the way down was better than this. Food was cold. I had gotten some breakfast potatoes and they were raw. Would never go back. We barely caught Mickey. He was just taking off from signing our books at our table as we were returning from the buffet. After asking several times about Goofy and being denied, when were leaving we had to track him down in the restaurant and ask his attendant if we could see him.

Bottom Line: Save your TS credit for a better place and just go to a character spot to meet the characters. It was the worst!

Teppan Edo - Dinner

Best dinner of our trip! The food was delicious. We were sat with a great family and had a ton of fun. Everything was wonderful and the service was outstanding!

Bottom Line: Awesome! Must do for us now.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Dinner

Best character meal. We would do this one again. Our princesses were Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Snow White and Aurora. I thought that the food was alright, but I wasn't that crazy about the menu to begin with. I had the beef tips, which were oddly sweet tasting, my dh had the meatballs which he said were ok and the girls had pizza. Good service and we really enjoyed the character interaction here. The princesses chatted for a few minutes and led the kids in a parade around the restaurant. The extra touches...salad buffet, picture package and character interaction really put this place over the top.

Bottom Line: Great character meal! We'll do this one again next time.

Chefs de France - Dinner

It was good, but we probably wouldn't go back. NOTE: Remy started making the rounds before 5pm not at 5:20p. We were happy that we snagged a 4:50 reservation and we got to see him right after we got seated. I had the beef tenderloin and my dh had some type of seafood dish, which he really enjoyed. Kids had hamburgers.

Bottom Line: Good, but not on the top of our list.

Good review...we did Chef Mickey's for dinner. It was okay for the food, but the character interaction was great. I had to ask the handler about Donald to come to our table. He did along with Mickey & Minnie. We probably want go back either. For the Akreshus, we had breaksfast which was great, & the character interaction was awesome. We will go back there.

I feel the same about 1900 Park Fare. I went on a girls only trip to WDW (left the DH and DSs at home) and we had an ADR here. We were so disappointed in the food. I disliked it big time. I'm glad we were on the dining plan and didn't actually pay cash for this meal. Not until I have a granddaughter will I venture back here! :)

We did Chef Mickey's for breakfast last year during the week of 4th of July and I thought it was actually pretty decent. All the food was well cooked and hot. I'm not suggesting 5 star, but it was better than a Denny's or IHOP (low standards but we go for the characters not the food). It wasn't overly crowded either.

I hope it's as good this year when we go.

Very interesting....my reviews of the restaurants below are EXACTLY the same as yours.....

But it felt rushed. Atmosphere was nice, but the tables were too close together. I didnt like the food much. What a poor variety! I couldnt believe it. I only like 2 or 3 items on the menu. Kids selection was bad. And the dessert selection was shockingly horrible. They were geared towards kids mostly.

Bottom Line: Excellent. Will be a must do on future trips. >>>Although i didnt get to see the dancers, on our first trip by chance we ended up just walking right in (around opening time). The place was empty! We were starving and it was hot. So it was a great place to cool down. We LOVED our food! So delish. Great atmosphere. I hope to see the dancing/band next time i go there.

We also went for breakfast. Wow it was awful. I actually took the time to complain about the meal and ended up getting $ back for it!

Bottom Line: Awesome! Must do for us now. >>>This was the highlite of our trip as well. We LOVE LOVE LOVE :cloud9: this place!!!! The food was INCREDIBLE (we had better steak here than at Le Cellier) and we loved watching the chef cook/entertain us. We'd definitely go back!
