Reviews for Edge Tween Club

Thanks for great information... DD- turns 12 on Sail Away Day, she is excited about in/out priviledges. Happy to know counselors guide the tweens. DD is outgoing but initially needs help making friends. Question about wave phone.. last cruise had pager. Does the tween get her own? Is it get for the parents?
What we do is go to guest services right as we got on the ship and requested an additional wavephone for my DS. There are two in your room (or supposed to be once there was only one and we had to report it). My DW and I both like to have one because we do different things on the ship and need them to coordinate getting our plans sync'd.

You will need to sign an additional form to get the 3rd phone and they go fast.

We found our DS having the phone was very useful to him and he enjoyed it. It gave us the comfort that he could get in touch with us whenever he needed to. He doesn't have a cell phone of his own yet and we are using this experience as a test to see if is mature enough to handle the responsibility of keeping track of his own phone. With two cruises down, he has done a great job.

However, even if you can't get a wavephone, he can call you using any of the courtesy phones on the ship. My DS did that the first time he went to the Edge and it worked out fine.

From my experience at edge DISNEY FANTASY and MAGIC I would say it was awesome. I too was a bit skeptical that there would only be video games to play, but boy I was wrong. After being on 2 Disney cruises where I went to Edge I would say there was always an organized activity going on wether Ga Ga Ball, Disney Trivia, or Cooking ect. And it was always so much fun. However mostly me and my friends would use Edge as a meeting place we would meet there around 10:00 am and then from there either play hide and seek around the ship, go swimming, or do scavenger hunts. Then we would most likely eat lunch at Cabanas, Flo's Cafe (FANTASY), or Pete's Boiler Bites (MAGIC). However sometimes we would eat lunch at a fancy resterante like Royal Court (FANTASY) or Lumiers (MAGIC) which was very fun. after lunch we would most likely hang out at edge by playing games or doing there organized activities. I would recommend "sending" your child to edge when Brains and Brawns are going on cause that was by far our favorite activity it's like a scavenger hut around the ship. Anyway we would go back to our cabins around 5:00 to get ready for family dinner and the show. Then around 9:45 - 10:00 we would meet up again and either do karaoke at edge or go on the AQUA DUCK at night so much fun. Then we would be in bed by 11:00. So overall I think Edge is great not only for having fun but meeting new friends that I'm still in touch with today. So in all you must be thinking why am I taking advice from a 13 yr old well I should know about edge the best cause I was there. Also you probably are also thinking that the kids at Edge are always loud and disrespectful of other guests but honestly me and my friends and most of the other kids there. But there is always that one occasional kid that has no idea whatsoever that there are other people in this world. But then again there just being kids so give them so slack. Anyway from my experience edge is an awesome fun place for your kids. You may also be worried about your 11-12-13-14yr old wandering around the ship. Well first of there not alone, and secondly you can always give them wave phones so you can stay in contact. In all your daughter or son will love edge soooooooooooo much they won't want to leave.

A huge thank you to everyone that posted information about Edge. We will have a just turned 11 year old, will he be able to go between the Oceaneer's club/lab and Edge without a problem??

Yes, an 11 year can participate in both Edge and Oceaneer's, as he wishes.

DD is will be 13 next month. We just got off the Magic. She loved Edge. She is a gamer, and took great pleasure in whooping up on the boys she played against. That said, she also enjoyed the pizza making, gaga ball, and the other activities. While we were on the ship, she spent most of her time there.

She did, unfortunately, come home with lice. She has really long hair, and I'm guessing the lounging while playing video games was the culprit.

thanks for all the info.

I really don't like the thought of my girls being able to sign in/out alone. I would not want either of them to be wandering the ship alone.

since they will be 13 and 11, my eldest could go between edge and vibe and the 11 year old between the club and edge. she looked at photos and want to be in the club with her younger brother. hopefully I can convince her to go the first night/day just to rule out that she wouldn't like it.

Yes, the 11 year old will have access to both the Club/Lab and Edge, however, there's no guarantee that your 13 year old will be allowed access to Vibe (ages 14-17), unless the CMs at Vibe OK it. If the number of 14-17 year olds onboard is the max number allowed in Vibe, they may not allow a 13 year old to "age up".

We went on our first cruise 2 weeks ago on the Fantasy. It being September, there weren't many teens on the ship. The CMs still strictly enforced the age ranges. My 13 year old could only go to Vibe during the open house times.

Oh no! That's a super unfortunate end to a vacation! Note to self as my DD also has really long hair...

DS16 was in the Edge 5 years ago on our first cruise. He doesn't remember what all they did, but they did a lot. There were scavenger hunts, organized dodge ball, etc. There were video games, also. But, there were a lot of organized activities.

DS 11 loved the Edge on the Magic this summer. We never saw him, but we set down ground rules for him. He didn't go into anyone cabin, bring anyone into ours, had to meet us on time at the MDR, and check in during the day, which is so easy with the texting app.

My oldest son was almost 14 on our first cruise but had no interest in trying to go to Vibe. He had a lot of fun in Edge, as did my daughter who was almost 12 at the time. My youngest son who was 9 did not want to go to Oceaneers, but that was his only option and I think he had some fun there in spite of thinking it was too young for him.

On our cruise last month, my oldest (now 15) chose not to try out Vibe. He's not shy, but also not super outgoing and was happy hanging out with our family or going to the sports deck to hang out with whoever happened to be there. My 13yo daughter spent some time in Edge. She did not ask if she could go to Vibe and I did not offer it as an option. My 10yo son fortunately was allowed to sign up for Edge this time and also spent some time there each day, sometimes with his sister and sometimes without.

While my 10 and 13 year olds were able to come and go at Edge as they please, we did not allow them to wander the ship. They were asked to check in with us before going somewhere else on the ship, and the younger two needed to have a sibling with them to go somewhere else like the sports deck. This of course requires some trust in your children, but I felt comfortable with that system for my kids. I don't think you have to give your kids free range to wander, just be comfortable knowing Edge will allow them to leave on their own at any time. Only you can decide, but you could consider a similar approach if your kids typically obey and follow rules.

My 13 year old HATED Edge. The CM's in my opinion were terrible. My daughter is EXTREMELY shy and suffers from anxiety. I begged Disney to allow my dd in the LAB because age limit was 3-12 in Lab and she was only 13 by 3 months and they refused. I spoke with the CM'S and they swore they would make her feel welcome. They NEVER once spoke to her, tried to include, or make her feel welcome. She was miserable. After about 3 days I just had her stop going. She tried on several occasions to just sit and the art table and craft because she loves drawing and each time boys would be rude to her and tell her they needed her chair to use during video games and counselors did NOTHING about it. I have been on several cruises and love Disney and am one to never complain but this was just so unacceptable to me. We basically went on a 10k vacation for my daughter to be miserable. I just wanted everyone to hear both sides. I am sure most kids that age would love it but for my special needs daughter it was a terrible experience....

Also, i am reading on this posts about 11 year olds having to go in Edge. Did they change the age limit? My middle is 9 and I have no intentions on going on Disney cruises once she ages out of the kids club. I was hoping we would have until she was 13. Thanks for any info...

Anyone 3-12 can go to the kid's club, but honestly once the kids are 10.5+ most go to the Edge. DS asked once to go to the Lab and get him a band so he could do one activity. Once that was done he never went back to the club. ( This was on a 12 night cruise.)

Can I ask we you both are against the Edge? DS loves going to the Edge, as well as other Tween Club's in different resorts we have been to.

we were on the Panama Canal cruise in May and my then 11 (turned 12 on this cruise) LOVED the Edge on the beautiful Wonder. I was skeptical that he would enjoy it as it was small and seemed cramped when all the kids were in there. But he loved every second of it. I has the rule that if I saw him on the gaming consoles each time I was in there or walking past (we were on deck one so used the stairs a lot to get some exercise lol) I was going to have him put in the lab with his little brother.

Ceejay loved all of the activities and enjoyed all of his time there. It is a really good idea to go on the first night so that the counsellors get to know them. Ceejay got lots of letters from the Edge on his fish outside the door - personally inviting him to the events.

Could not fault the counsellors - in fact the ones Ceejay got to know well were in tears when they said goodbye to him :) We have booked for next years cruise - its a long way from home for us but the effort is definitely workth it. (We are from New Zealand :) )

The first time we cruised, my son was 11 and didn't want to be bothered with any of the clubs. Last year, when he was just shy of 13, we cruised to Alaska on the Wonder. We never saw him the entire week. He was constantly doing something at the Club.

The only bad thing that happened was that he fell during the scavenger hunt and broke his wrist. It wasn't anyone's fault. They told them not to run/race but unfortunately boys being boys...he went down on the marble floor and oops. He came back to our room and as soon as I saw how he was holding his hand, I knew there was a problem. Fortunately it was a fairly simple scaphoid fracture on his non-dominant hand. It was easily managed in medical (x-ray, some motrin, and a brace) and within two hours, he was back on the move. Disney bent over backwards to make sure that this didn't ruin our vacation. That night the director of the kids programs came looking for us offering to help change any excursions if there was a problem now that the poor kid was braced. Happily no plans needed to be changed. Two days later guest services was calling to check on him. Three weeks after we got home, someone from Disney called to see how he was. Yes, I'm sure part of it was trying to make sure we weren't going to sue. But it was simply an accident caused by boys not following the rules.

Five months later we were back on the Wonder. The counselors remembered him and were thrilled to see him. And again, we never saw him. There were many nights that my husband, my daughter and I went to bed, only to have him roll in at midnight. He really enjoyed the opportunity to spread his wings.

Sorry it was not a good expirience for you daughter. I guess it depends upon the CMs. My DSs really enjoyed the organized activities at edge (not so much the down time). They said the CMs were really good about getting everyone involved and making them feel included. I asked them this specifically because it was one of the questions on a survey we recieved after our cruise.

There is only one reason we have choses DCL for every vacation over the last two years and that is the Edge. Happy kids=happy parents.
